2008 USA Basketball Women’s National Team To Kick-Off Final Training Camp July 28 in Palo Alto, California

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Gathering for the first time as a single unit, the 2008 USA Basketball Women’s National Team will practice July 28-31 in Palo Alto, Calif., in its final domestic training camp before traveling to the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Some of the players might get a few days off from the WNBA before they report for USA basketball duty.

I don't think USA Basketball will be involved in any type of punishment for something that happened in a WNBA game.

That's what I was wondering. If the league suspends them for few a games (a slap on the wrist) you'd still be rewarding them for their behavior by suspending them for the remaining few games to rest up for the Olympics.

The two are really not related. I can't imagine USA Basketball will have a word to say about any of this -- it's not their jurisdiction and it's not smart politically. If suspended players happen to benefit from the additional rest, that is simply a fortunate/unfortunate coincidence, depending on one's perspective. Obviously, in 3 out of 4 years this would not be a concern.

Camp is on the 28th, and the Mercury's last game prior is the night before, the 27th. Does anyone know when Cappie and Diana will leave the team?

I pray for their iron-willed constitutions and hope they will leave that night after the game!
