Houston is a HUGE market, and losing the Comets was a body blow to the city and the league.
Fertitta obviously has the money and access to great facilities so it seems like a no-brainer. My only question is why he waited until now to say anything,

Probably because up until VERY recently the NBA has actively marketed the W as a money losing venture. Something I think has always been less true than the accounting math says. Starting with the hiring of Englebert which was a HUGE shift from prior presidents, the league has started signaling the value of the W. He probably also saw those draft ratings and said he wants in.

| The article read more like a wish list from the writer with Fertitta answering a random question with "yeah, sure, I guess I'd be the obvious owner", rather than Fertitta actively wanting to pursue a team and that leading to the article. Falls very much in the usual 'believe it when I see it' category for me. |
