I was hoping the Sky would keep Kayana Traylor. She played well in the final pre-season game in Toronto. Finally got a bit of playing time to show her full game. I know it's a numbers game to finalize risters which is part of the problem. If the W can't expand with teams, they should atleast expand roster sizes to say, 15. We need to see more college players getting valuable experience in the W for when it finally does expand and players retire!!!

Traylor did indeed show out in Toronto, but it apparently wasn't enough. She didn't stand out to me at the pre-season game in Chicago.

We'll see what this season brings! I have more hope than I initially did when I looked at all the pieces we'd acquired. But it's still just the preseason, so not much to go on...

I liked Morgan Bertsch when she was drafted in 2019. She looked like a player to me, but I never thought she'd stick with it very long.

Lots of players have degrees, but if you look at what kind of degrees they have you see mostly relatively easy majors. There are a lot of Communications and Sociology degrees around the league.

Bertsch is not one of those. Her degree is in biomedical engineering, not an easy get. It's not the kind of degree you typically stick in a drawer for years while you dribble a ball. It's the kind that normally means plans and prospects beyond sports.

Maybe sticking with her passion for basketball is admirable. It's definitely surprising, at least to me.

Was hoping Maley would make it. Was thinking they needed a wing more than a post . Of the 13 players on the Sky Roster (Ruthy Hebard out after pregnancy) 7 are posts. So 6 active players for 2 post positions and 6 players for 3 wing positions. But Mabrey and Gardner are big enough to play small forward if Copper or Parks are injured.

Plus Harrison's out for what sounds like is gonna be a while with a knee injury. So it's more like 6/5 for the moment.

Morgan Bertsch was offered a scholarship by only one D1 school (UC Davis) and that was after they saw her on an opponents highlight reel they had received. She was a top high jumper in high school.

The Sky is playing the Dream tonight. Not well, however...

Yep, this game was disappointing after the first 4 were all close or a win.

They never got in sync.

One could choose to point out that this is the third game in 5 days. Yesterday was a travel day. Key folks are injured. But I am not making that choice, though certainly they are factors.

Most shot under 30%. Too many turnovers.

They just looked horrible...83-65? Sheesh...

It was a very physical game. At first, the refs seemed to be letting them play. Then they were inconsistent in the calls they started making.

It seems Gardner will be out for a while following foot surgery. Very sad to hear this, I've been a big fan of her since hearing her story and was hoping she would have a great season in her increased role.

Sad

Gardner's delayed return is major. I knew it was bad because they didn't take her to the locker room after - they took her out into the Wintrust lobby, by the entrance doors. The post-game video got screwed up so if anyone asked her status, we never heard the answer.

Quote:
And the impact of Gardner’s injury is heightened by the absence of forward Isabelle Harrison, who underwent meniscus surgery May 19 after suffering an injury during preseason. The timetable for a return from meniscus repair can range from six weeks to three months. Wade reiterated that the Sky don’t expect either Gardner or Harrison to be available “any time soon.”

First-year forward Morgan Bertsch, who suffered an ankle sprain against the Mystics, is closer to a return, but Wade said she will still remain sidelined for one to two weeks. Bertsch wore a walking boot at practice Thursday morning while her activity was confined to riding an exercise bike and other low-impact exercises.

The Sky also have placed no timeline on the return of forward Ruthy Hebard, who gave birth to her son Xzavier in April.

With four players sidelined, the Sky are down to nine available players — including maternity-replacement player Kristine Anigwe, who will depart Sunday for international duty with Britain.

Dang...

Dallas, get ready to get a lottery pick next season. We know your team likes to draft lottery picks and then waive them the following year. Just like fishing. Catch and release.

It's the landscape of today's professional sports. I'm not mad. It is, what it is.

Dwyane Wade confirms he’s taking a ‘deep look’ at investing in Sky

Quote:
“I’ve taken a deep look at the WNBA, a deep look at the Chicago Sky and a deep look at if this is a place that Dwyane Wade should be part of,” Wade said.

Sky’s Alanna Smith a bright spot amid team’s slump

Through 12 games (nine starts), she’s averaging 10.3 points, a team-high 6.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks.

Sky attribute fourth consecutive loss to familiar energy issues

Quote:
“We’ve lost seven straight and won a championship the same year. We don’t turn on each other in Chicago,” coach/general manager James Wade said.

Trading all those picks then leaving mid-season is harsh

Maybe he felt that seat getting hot, and wanted to beat the posse out of town?

The dual role of HC/GM needs to be eliminated...How do you trade all of those draft picks and then jump ship?
