I’m not good at keeping up with these but I do find attendance statistics fun.

Opening Night:

WSH 4,200
DAL 5,588
CON 7,048
IND 7,356
MIN 8,024
LAS 10,396
NYL 8,575
SEA 11,229
PHX 14,040

Honestly pretty good numbers. Washington at capacity, a big improvement for Indy, steady number for Minny and a strong showing for BG’s first game back.

Solid numbers for a “high school gym” as some here like to say . The attendance could have been bigger if they did not get rid of the bleacher seats. In a way it’s beneficial though those were the cheap tickets Laughing

Having been in that arena wig similar numbers, it’s really impressive how impressive that number feels in the building. I think the lower bowl has a 10k capacity so 8,575 feels like a sell out.

Phoenix just started but they look damn near sold out, so I expect a 10k+ number from them.

All in all, a fantastic attendance start for the league, even Dallas! 🙃

Phoenix had 14,040 in attendance for the home opener. Very impressive!

I don't blame them for reporting it or claiming it, but 'sellout' always feels like a slightly ridiculous term when the arena has about 10,000 more seats in it that no one tried to sell.

yall's boy MA with the first weekend power rankings on ESPN yet again putting us as the worst undefeated team at 7 smh They really have a dislike for Arike and take it out on Dallas with every article chance they get . This is why Dawn said what she said about "They" during the final 4 . #Norespect

https://www.espn.com/wnba/story/_/id/37703764/wnba-power-rankings-2023-brittney-griner-returns-chicago-sky-make-big-jump

Quote:
7. Dallas Wings
Record: 1-0
Previous ranking: 5
This week: at Seattle (Friday), at Chicago (Sunday)

The Wings looked like they had Saturday's opener in control vs. the Atlanta Dream, but it got a little too close for comfort at the end. Still, a win is a win, and Arike Ogunbowale remains a scoring tour de force, opening with 27 points, while Satou Sabally had 25 and Natasha Howard 20. Center Teaira McCowan had to leave the game with an apparent knee injury, so that could be a concern.

What does this have to do with league attendance?

Hopefully Phoenix can get that number up, but I'm impressed with the numbers so far this year!

Impressive that the team with the worst record is still #1 in attendance, the team with the steepest decline from last year is #2 and only 3 teams have any decline in attendance.
