My guess on this is that the mascots have appearances and such throughout the year, not just the October-April season. But still that seems like a very high salary for a mascot. Even for 12 months of work, that's a LOT. I wonder what all responsibilities that team job entails.

The mascot also has to make appearances in the offseason and be available for other events that the team sponsors.
I seen where the Memphis Grizzlies mascot appeared at the birthday party of their star players child.
As far as salaries, blame the WNBA and the players union. They negotiated the salaries because they wanted all the teams to have an even playing field. I think that if it were left up to some of the owners, they would be very happy to play their star players more.
