Wisconsin's OOC looks about like JMU's. Sad what depths my beloved Badgers have fallen to. Curse you, Pat Richter, and the football bus you rode in on.

I mean for a team that has stunk, they are playing a good Kansas State team, a good Georgia team, a good Seton Hall team, a good Florida State team. Some of these mid majors on their schedule like Green Bay are traditionally tough. Not sure how many more power 5's you expected a team like Wisconsin to play. Their schedule seems like your run of the mill one, a few power 5s and a lot of mid majors. I don't see any horrible teams that will drag down their NET so that is good too.
Wisconsin being in the Big Ten is going to get better opponents in league play than a James Madison so their scheduling could be different for that reason. Not sure what more you wanted from Wisconsin, should they have added Notre Dame and UConn to the schedule too?

Wisconsin is a tough job! It's a state that's just full of volleyball players at a University who has one of the top 5 volleyball programs in the nation. With that being said though, I think Marissa Mosely is fantastic and I think she can turn this around. She is on my short wish list of people to take over when Geno retires.

Wisconsin in the early 90s was still a good team, when Jane Albright had them. If things had gone the way they were supposed to, they might still be. But enough of that. They went to hell courtesy of Pat Richter and a bunch of screaming meemies who insisted that ONLY a woman coach would do...any woman, they didn't care who.

Who are the "screaming meemies who insisted that ONLY a woman coach would do" regardless of their coaching abilities? Were Stone and Kelsey not good picks at the time? What male coach was available at the time who had the experience to take on a B1G coaching position and would have wanted to? Was Jonathan Tsipsis also "any woman"? Wisconsin was already falling behind by Albright's last couple of years at Wisconsin and I don't think many of the coaches (even male ones) that Wisconsin would have hired would had a ton of success there after Albright. That's what I think anyway.

Stone was a horrible choice. At the time or any time. Kelsey, while I like her, wasn't much better. She tried, but she couldn't undo the damage. The screaming meemies I refer to were a bunch of females who absolutely insisted that a woman MUST be hired to succeed Albright. I can't cite names at this time because I don't remember but it caused quite a stir. Al Brown had been hired as an AC at Wisconsin with the tacit understanding that he would succeed Albright but this committee convinced Pat Richter, who knew nothing about women's basketball and cared even less, that only a woman could do the job. Stone did not have experience at the level of a B1G team, though she'd been successful at smaller universities and lower levels. Nor did Kelsey, although I liked her. Cracking on Tsipis does not figure in the conversation, since he isn't female. I had hopes for him, but they didn't pan out. Possibly his lack of familiarity with the area hurt him, I don't know. Whether or not Mosely can revive the program remains to be seen. Too many years of neglect thanks to Richter and Alvarez may have damaged it beyond repair.

Thanks for responding. I follow Wisconsin a little as a Michigan fan and a B1G WBB fan but I'm not as close to the program as you may be. I thought Tsipis (whom I like as a coach) did figure into the conversation because I understood you to be saying that all the women coaches were hired because they were women and they didn't do well and here's a male coach who also didn't do well at Wisconsin.

I'm disappointed that yet again Marquette and Wisconsin won't be playing. Yes I know Wisconsin has been bad for awhile but I miss this rivalry game. They last played in the 2017-18 season.

Some good B1G previews are on this Substack. This week is Michigan and I think they are going in reverse order of what they think the standings will look like, minus Rutgers which they seem to be saving for last because their roster is incomplete.

This is a really nice schedule for a Purdue team I am hoping takes another step back this year. They certainly are not set up to compete with the Stanfords or Tennessees or Louisvilles of the world this year. But, seeing how we match up against mid-level major-conference teams will be a really important measuring stick. Coming out of the games against OK State, FSU, A&M, and Syracuse at, say, 3-1 or 2-2 0-4 will tell us a lot where we are.
