"The Queen of Basketball" is a terrific 22-minute film by Ben Proudfoot done for the New York Times documentary unit. Ms. Harris essentially narrates it throughout and great clips are interspersed of her college career at Delta State (she led the team to three consecutive AIAW national titles), her time on the first U.S. Olympic basketball team in 1976, and her candid remarks about her struggles with being bipolar. I exchanged emails today with a someone I know, a teammate of Luisa Harris on the first U.S. Olympic women's basketball team in 1976. She stayed in touch with Lucy (as Ms. Harris was known) ever since and speaks glowingly of her, calling Luisa Harris "a very special person."
