Tiffany Mitchell having an impact both on the court and off it, during the aussie WNBL season

Basketball Australia apologises as WNBL player cites ‘racial discrimination’ over braid rule
Melbourne Boomers import Tiffany Mitchell says Basketball Australia discriminated against her by asking her to tie back her braids under a rule that no longer exists in world basketball.
The 27-year-old American posted her story to social media on Sunday following the opening two games of her WNBL career after a league email threatened to keep players with long braids off the court unless they tied them up or in a bun. |

WNBL RULE CHANGE
The WNBL has reviewed a long-standing policy relating to braids and ponytails and has made the decision to remove it, effective immediately.
The policy was:
Braids:
If a player (male or female) has their hair braided, and it swings free from their head when the head is moved, it may cause harm to another player if struck by the braid. Due to injury that may be caused, players are not permitted on the court with free braids in their hair.
Plaited Ponytails:
Players with plaited ponytails must roll the plait into a bun or remove the plait and play with a loose ponytail. (as long as the ponytail does not hide the player’s number).
The policy has been deemed discriminatory and inconsistent with Basketball Australia’s Diversity & Inclusion framework by the WNBL Commission.
It is also not enforced in either the WNBL, other leading professional women’s leagues around the world or international competitions such as the Olympics and World Cup.
To this end, the WNBL Commission has removed the policy, effective immediately.
Basketball Australia makes an unreserved apology for any anguish and pain that was caused by this rule. |

Indeed, quite interesting. I've always been concerned about overseas play for a variety of reasons but I'm not sure I've heard this one before... My goodness, I hope she gets home safely...

Hoped I was done tracking virus postponements after last season, but here we are again. |
France have just put in heavy restrictions against travel there from the UK, so I don't know what that means for the Lions-Bourges second leg next week. You need a 'compelling reason' to enter France (not sure a EuroCup game would count) and are then supposed to isolate for two days. Postponement seems a definite possibility. |

I dont know if these arbitration things can go both ways but Tenerife/Spanish team will be filing a complaint with FIBA
The statement from the Tenerife club:
Megan Walker and Janelle Bailey have made the decision to leave Tenerife without prior notice to the club. Last Thursday they did not go to training and when they tried to locate them they were already outside of Spain. For this reason, the purple entity has decided to start the complaint process before FIBA, since both players were up to date with payments and had no reason to leave the Tenerife discipline.
link might be in Spanish, so I translated the above paragraph from the article

Thank you for the update on the Reyer vs. Avenida game. I was wondering what happened!
I watched at least part of a few Euroleague matchups today and the best one I saw was an overtime game between Sopron (Briann January, Shey Peddy, Jelena Brooks and Gabby Williams) vs. Famila Schio (Sandrine Gruda, Kim Mestdagh and Diamond DeShields. Schio pulled out a tough win in overtime behind strong play from DeShields and Gruda. Diamond didn't shoot well but she had a solid t +/- and contributed in many ways. She and Gruda ended the night with dbl-dbls. I truly hope this is a step forward for Diamond because her upside is pretty exciting! She always does something on the floor that basically nobody else can do, but as we have observed, needs to be more consistent with finishing. I'll be excited to see their next game in hopes that she is really pulling things together. Btw, I know coaches didn't know what to do with Gruda when she was in the W but that woman is still tough!
On the Sopron side, January led the squad in scoring and while her shooting percentage wasn't great, I think she is another one who shoots better when she's mad! She hit a few timely 3s after getting banged around! As always, Peddy is tough and for some reason, Gabby was pretty quiet today and ended the match with only 3 pts.
Overall, it was a great game!
