but I guess that was wrong. She's coming in for the last few minutes of the half. Maybe just fatigue after all her minutes the past two days.

A half time massacre by Attila the Tree, who has the most offensive depth in the country. But not the defense or guard speed and handles of S. Carolina. Jump's jumper is amazing.
Angel Reese, on the other hand, is literally playing like a spastic klutz with terrible shot judgment. |

Tara's substitution patterns are quite interesting to me, particularly in how they vary between games (including who even plays). The starters have played all but 10 total minutes thus far today, and three of them played the whole half.

As I can't watch this game, I'm curious....who's running the point?

What this game exposes is how pathetic MD's defense is. Usually they are scoring so fast that you don't really see it.
Stanford looks good but they are playing a tired team that really doesn't pay attention to defense even when they aren't tired so I'll wait till they play Tenn and SCar before I praise their offense.

These third games would be a lot more entertaining if they had an off day after the second game. |
so true. although Maryland actually did have a day off. Stanford had their problem day yesterday because Tara thought she could win with our scrubs...

I think Maryland is so obsessed with running offense so fast that time moves backward, that they don't acknowledge how that can be a detriment for scenarios where there are back-to-back games against constantly good (if not elite level) opposition. But in this case we also have several key MD players dealing with injuries, so that also adds to the problem.
Maryland was not ready to play against a quality foe, today.....

Maryland really misses Benzan and Miller. Hopefully they can get healthy soon.
Collins isn't all that good IMO. Normally she doesn't have to be because of what they have around her.
Not sure why Reese is having such a bad game.
They are used to being way bigger than everybody they play against which is also an issue for them against Stanford, who is just as big or bigger.
And Owusu is used to being able to barrel into players and having the foul called on the defense. The refs aren't giving her that in this game, which has thrown her offense off.
At any rate I don't think this will be the same team we see come tourney time. Of course I think Stanford will be much better by then as well.

Enough.
This Maryland team isn't #2 in the country. Neither is Stanford yet. From what I've seen so far, it's S. Carolina clearly ahead of the pack, followed by UConn and . . . hmmm . . . Stanford. |

yeah So Caro and UConn head and shoulders above everyone else. Then a bunch of borderlines.

NC State would like to enter the conversation. They did almost as well as UConn against South Carolina,

This "Maryland" is not the Maryland that has been voted #2 in the country.
Thought experiment: Remove the best all-around offensive player (Miller), the best shooter (Benzan), and the best defender (Miller again) from all the top teams in the country. What you have left is a bunch of average teams.
Maybe I'm just inclined to grant teams too much leeway when missing key personnel, or maybe it's my big ten bias, but I'm not yet ready to write off Maryland from being a legit contender.
All that said, Maryland definitely looked worse than I expected.

PREE-cisely. Any (current) Top Team can take a dive in a NY minute, with just one injury.

She's been nursing a knee injury. She tried to play a few minutes here and there last week but this week she's back to complete rest.
