Qualifying starts on Thursday. I put the videos up on one page, although geographic restrictions may apply:

Awhom111, do you know the dates of the tournament that is supposed to be held by Slovenia and Israel? I see the qualifiers, but couldnt find the actual dates and which location is hosting the actual final rounds.

Thanks

I watched Germany vs North Macedonia to see if Walt Hopkins coaches Germany differently from the Liberty. Well, he started a big lineup: 6-5, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3, 5-10. That was different. On the other hand, they did shoot a lot of 3's while bricking most of them. That looked like the 2020 Libs. Smile That big lineup struggled, and it wasn't until Walt substituted some smaller players that the game stabilized for Germany. Still, North Macedonia led 33-26 with 8:06 remaining in the 3rd Quarter. From that point on, Germany steamrolled North Macedonia on their way to a 73-41 victory. I guess being outscored 47-8 over the last 18 minutes qualifies as a collapse. Over that stretch, North Macedonia looked worse than Fort Hayes State (DII) did against UConn.

DeWanna Bonner is listed on the North Macedonia roster but she was not at the game. No explanation was given since there was no commentary for the first half of the game. Some German announcers showed up for the second half. I don't speak German, and I didn't hear them mention Bonner. However, after a German player got mugged without a foul being called, they did say something about American Football.

Somewhat similarly, Temi Fagbenle was in Great Britain's 12 for tonight's game and was sat on the bench all night in her warmups. No one, as far as I've found, has reported why she didn't play (they had 14 in the training squad, so no idea why she was in the 12 if she's not healthy). The report of the game on GB Basketball's official site literally didn't mention her name in the entire report. Typical shambles, unfortunately.

I'm a little surprised we kept it as close as we did, without Fagbenle, Anigwe, Leedham or Leonard, but fortunately Greece aren't very good. There's still no point guard on the GB team, which combined with missing the star center leaves us pretty dreadful.

Poland defeats Albania 125-19. Shocked If ever a mercy rule were needed...

I don't believe that dates have been decided. Slovenia will host the final rounds:

I mean, Poland did used to have quite a nice empire. It's odd because you don't necessarily think of Poland as a basketball power, so for them to run up the score on Albania is shocking indeed.

Ah, the glory days of Poland. I believe the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth once ruled as far as Ukraine, Estonia, and into parts of present day Russia.

It's mostly an indication that Albania probably shouldn't be playing at this level. Who gains from an official tournament qualifier, in the most competitive FIBA region, where one team is 100 points better than the other? That's basically why Division B exists.

Sunday's games:
http://www.womensbasketball247.com/2021/11/2023-eurobasket-qualifiers-game-2-november-14th/

A bunch of teams that would have expected to have a solid path to the tournament will be stewing about these games for a year.

Albania only lost by 99 this time. To a mediocre Slovenia team that played all their reserves and sat their best player.

Meanwhile, Great Britain's miserable week was rounded off by losing to a poor Estonia team, and we now basically need to win our remaining four games and get lots of help. Awful. And, not that I can blame her if she prioritised her paying gig, but I'm going to be pissed off if Fagbenle (and Anigwe) is in uniform for Cukurova's next game...

As someone fairly newish to international ball, I do not understand AT ALL why there is a gap of a full year between the qualifying windows. Why do they do that? I'm totally willing to assume there's a good reason, but I can't reason out what it is.

Due to FIBA taking the February window for their qualifying. Ideally Europe would want to also have windows in both February and November 2022, but instead have to end in February 2023 and only have a few months once all the teams are known.

I saw Tiffany Hayes post on her IG a clip of Karlie Samuelson being WWE slammed by #21 for Estonia, with no foul called, but apparently sent Karlie to concussion protocol. I mean yikes! Y'all see that one? https://www.instagram.com/p/CWQ_VrzjmLq/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

None of the Samuelsons went to my alma mater or play for the team in my town, so this is just a wow is all.

The player who arm locked Karlie and tossed her over, plays for Washington State Univ. Johanna Teder.

Before you click play on the video you can clearly see the base line ref and sideline ref have a clear view of the play.

Amazing this wasnt even reviewed.

Dang Johanna, if arms are locked, you don't have to try to throw her down. To me, it was the get up and walk away attitude. No.

Forgot to mention that some Philippines fans are probably incensed about the lineup that Israel trotted out today.

Yep, still hurt along with Gruda, among others. Their club absences contribute to Lyon having played with only 5 non-teenagers available in games so far this season.

Only somewhat thread-relevant, but Matilda Ekh really flew all the way from Sweden after Thursday's game to meet up with Michigan State in Portland this morning.
