6’3 basketball height and seems pretty athletic and a bit of a character.
Somehow only rated #12 at ESPN. Is she athletic but lacking in skills?
Her final 4 are reportedly Kentucky, Mississippi St, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

She’s from Columbia, SC.

Where do you figure she’ll end up playing?

30-day poll.

If she wants playing time, not South Carolina.

Watkins has been dunking since she was in the 8th grade. Dunking is nothing new for her.

She is very athletic - she is mostly a post-up scorer, rebounder, and shot blocker. She has length and a long wingspan, and she does all three very well, but she hasn't developed an outside face-the-basket jumper quite yet, although she is very efficient as a 2-3 step dribble-driver.

Here is some game highlights of her Cardinal Newman team playing against Keenan High last season. Watkins is #22 in black - #23 in white for Keenan is their star player and 2023 Hoopgurlz overall #7 prospect Milaysia Fulwiley:

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/FX1J-OJMxZc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Fulwiley led all scorers with 33 pts, but her team lost to Watkins' Cardinal Newman 75-63. It was a case of a very deep and talented squad in Cardinal Newman, against a team with basically two players - beyond Fulwiley's 33, Ashari Lewis added 19 for the Lady Raiders, so the both of them accounted for 52 of their team's 63 total points.

Cardinal Newman's scoring was a bit more spread out. Watkins scored 15 pts: #25 on her team is 2023 prospect Mary Ashley Groot, who led the Cardinal with 23 pts. Groot typically plays the 5 alongside Watkins at the 4.

Watkins is projecting as a 4, and a class of her, Janiah Barker, and Talaysia Cooper would be optimal. Even 6-2 Barker is projecting more as a W than a P. After this coming season, Dawn Staley loses F Saxton, G/F Grissett, and F Wesolek, so the room will definitely be there.

And the next season - which would be these girl's rising sophomore seasons - Boston and Amihere will also leave, so by then we'll definitely be needing their depth by then.

So unless they want to be full-season starters beginning with their freshmen seasons, there shouldn't be any issue at South Carolina for them.....

I live not too far from Cardinal Newman and I've seen Watkins play several times . While I certainly hope Dawn Staley gets her , I'm not as ready to shoehorn her into the 4 spot . Frankly , in the high school games I've seen , she hasn't shown much inclination to play with her back to the basket despite having a height advantage . Most of her inside baskets come on rebounds and stickbacks and driving layups . She glides up and down the floor in transition and that seems to be the part of the game that she loves most . Her 12 to 15 foot jumper has improved , and I've been told she even made a couple of threes last year , but because of limited attendance I only saw one game early in the season .
Having Mary Ashley Groot on her team for a season was probably good for her since it allowed her to wander away from the basket a little more . However , I'm told that Groot and her family have moved back to the New York area so it will be interesting to see how Watkins is used .

From these highlights, Watkins looks like a very good shot blocker and rebounder but didn't show much in terms of offensive moves or shooting touch outside of layups. #25 was more impressive in the low post on offense.

Fulwiley has magic and should be a college star.

Not sure how solid the source, but apparently her final two are NC and SC (different ends of the spectrum), and she’ll be announcing 11/17/2021.

Neutral You say that as if NC is this cellar-dweller program, when in reality they made the Tourney last season, and Banghart has shown she’s a pretty good recruiter & can put together a competent team – they’re 2-0 to start and just won their previous game by 56 points, fwiw.

Well, to be specific, North and South ARE at different ends of the spectrum.....

The two states are right next to each other, so I think we all know that a geographical spectrum was not what the OP was referring to.🙃

Stylistically, at least, NC and SC are, or have been, quite different. I'm sure that was the reference.

I hope that her chosen school, which was completely unintelligible on that video, offers a public speaking course.

Don't you have more pressing things to do this week, like gathering up some golf balls to throw at opposing football coaches, or water bottles to throw at your own football cheerleaders?? Times a-wastin'......

Watkins is a Gamecock!! Not too bad a little two-player class Dawn has put together. The 2023 class will be another barn-burner.....

Watkins and Talaysia Cooper are the very first SC prospects to put 2 players on the McDonald's AA team in the same year. They are the 4th and 5th to represent SC: Xylina McDaniel (UNC), Alaina Coates (USC), and A'ja Wilson (USC) were the previous McD AA members from South Carolina, albeit in different years.

South Carolina is in position to lose two of their 11 McDonald's AAs after this season, in PG Destanni Henderson and CG Destiny Littleton. Both I believe still have the option of claiming their covid extra year of eligibility, and be Super Seniors, although for Henderson I expect her to move on to her professional opportunities. Littleton however I do not know.

The team overall will be losing 5 seniors after this season - Henderson, Littleton, Victaria Saxton, Lele Grissett, and Elisa Wesolek, so with the addition of just 2 in Watkins and Cooper, should Littleton choose to stay another year, the total logjam on the roster should still ease up a little from this current season. Unless there are transfers on the way......

La'Tangela Atkinson in 2002 and Ivory Latta in 2003 were McDAAs. https://www.mcdonaldsallamerican.com/content/dam/aag/All-time%20Girls%20Roster.pdf

This list is an interesting read.

Good find . I think CG got his info from The State newspaper here in Columbia but they obviously left out Atkinson and Latta . So Watkins & Cooper would be the 6th & 7th from the state of SC .
