Raoul reporting that Tamisha Augustin has left the women basketball program after joining coaching staff in April. Tad WedAl also left coaching staff for similar position at Austin Peay.

Don’t forget that Wes Brooks was hired for a hot second before moving on to Ohio State.

Nikki McCray Penson stepping down due to health reasons. Breast cancer survivor. Keeping her in my thoughts.

There hasn't been an official report that it's cancer again, but from her official statement, it sounded like that's what has happened, which is terrible. I think Miss State fans were overly harsh of her first season there - the entire transition from Schaefer leaving for Texas was a bit of a shock to the program, so anything less than a national-title winning head coach coming to replace him was destined to be viewed as a "stepping down" from the Bulldog's current position of expectation.

But I had (and still have) high regard of McCray-Penson as a head coach - her staff's first year was going to be a hard start regardless, with several players transferring out. That seems to be the new regular process for ANY P5 program that transitions to a new staff these days.

But then the Pandemic-stunted season in 2020-21 that took away a substantial non-conference slate of games for her team to use to develop a new team identity and a new consensus mindset with new playbooks, etc. sort of killed any decent chance for the team to find its footing on the same page before the SEC schedule started up.

I felt Nikki and Miss State were set up nicely for 2021-22 to rebound and become a top team in the SEC once again, and get the Nikki era rolling forward. Now this slams the brakes down hard again, and the Bulldogs are hitting the reset button all over again.....

OMG, no! I will definitely keep Nikki in my prayers. She is such a nice person as well as a damn good coach. She rebuilt ODU from the wreck Karen Barefoot left and was on her way to bringing it back to a top mid-major when she left for Miss. State. I think she could have brought MSU back too. (She's also one of my Twitter followers...I nearly dropped my teeth when I saw that she'd followed me!) Crying or Very sad

Whatever her health problems are, I hope she's able to fully recover from it.

Now, anybody got the over/under on whether or not all those Hayes sisters will stay on the roster the whole season and (for the non-seniors) not end up re-entering the transfer portal? Razz It's looking like it could shape up to be a starkly chaotic season in Starkville.

Alasia Hayes is out for early part of the season with lower leg injury.

Bethel? Isn't that a D-II? Wow. You would think Miss State could do better.

It's D3. Nikki hired him as her associate head coach, then when she stepped down, he was named interim.

Reading some of the stuff about him, I get the feeling he’s a Don Meyer (Northern State men’s basketball coach) like student of the game. That basketball brain that stayed at the small school but whom everyone revered as a mentor. He has history with Pat and probably Nikki too as he was a tennis athlete at Tennessee when Nikki was a basketball player. In the video link he talks about his connection to Pat …..there is also a special guest star zooming into the press conference.
