I'm happy N Mack is getting another shot. Make the best of it.

Dolson temporarily suspended. Mack signed as a Hardship player.

So if Dolson (or Plum, Gray, KLS etc) gets injured in 3x3 and it out for the rest of the season do they still collect their WNBA pay?

No, they're not playing in WNBA games so their teams are not responsible for them. My guess is that the player would stay suspended, allowing her team to continue using her roster spot. However, I believe she remains on the cap. The one exception is KLS because her contract isn't guaranteed. Seattle could cut her to free-up cap space, but I'm guessing that wouldn't happen since they traded the #1 overall pick for her. Not sure if the salary guarantee date would affect her situation.

Now that I think about it more, getting hurt while playing non-WNBA games could technically be a violation of a player's contract just as it is when they play overseas. I think that's grounds for terminating the contract. It's doubtful this would happen since they're playing for USA Basketball and it would be a bad look. Plus her team may still want the player. However, maybe it's a consideration for Dolson because she is out of contract after this season.

I'm punting to Richyyy. Smile

Yeah - hope we hear from Richyyy. I'm not suggesting anyone put a banana peel on the 3x3 practice court, but an injury could allow the Sky to escape from Dolson's contract......

See, I was kinda hoping this would slip by without anyone noticing - because if there's one section of the CBA and WNBA rules that I haaaaaate, it's the suspension rules. Because they're wildly unclear and overcomplicated in the CBA, and the way they're put into practice in reality is (largely speaking) much simpler. But anyway...

If someone gets injured playing basketball for someone other than their WNBA team, then you're absolutely allowed to suspend them without pay. It all gets a bit more complicated, especially in cap terms, if it were to happen during a WNBA season, but that's the basic element. I think you could definitely argue that you could suspend them 'for the year' (like Alysha Clark was by Washington), even though it would be part-way through the season. Exactly what the cap hit would then be - the amount you have paid them to that point would make sense, but wouldn't necessarily be the actual answer - is then a different debate.

So I hope that, uh, helped? I'm kinda susprised I don't really remember this happening in the past. You'd think with all the EuroBaskets and Olympic breaks we've had, there'd be an occasion where someone got hurt outside of WNBA play but during the WNBA season that I could think back to.

At tonight's performance, the role of Tonya Harding will be played by Rock Hard. The role of Nancy Kerrigan will be played by Stefanie Dolson.

Candace Parker comes home

https://www.chicagomag.com/chicago-magazine/june-july-2021/candace-parker/

Quote:
I remember crying after a game. We’d lost in the Western Conference finals, and I was really upset. There’s a picture of Lailaa coming onto the court and hugging me. Fast-forward a couple of months. We were at my brother’s house, visiting her cousins, and they were playing a board game. I went in the room because I heard some yelling. Lailaa was in the corner, crying. So I walked over to her and said, “What happened?” “I lost.” And I said, “We don’t cry when we lose.” She’s like, “But you did.”

Non-basketball injuries have somewhat different rules that things suffered while playing for other teams, by the way. So Rock Hard might need to quickly make it onto one of the other competing 3x3 squads... Wink

Shyla Heal finally made it to Chicago, so maybe that squashes the Mack rumor that never made it to the official transactions list.

Across The Timeline is pretty reliable. They jumped the gun with Mack, but the signing has been moved to today along with entries for A. Gray, Stokes, and R.Gray. Where are you getting your Heal information? Is she simply in Chicago or did she clear protocol and actually join the team?

Heal's been in Chicago for at least a couple of days, but that's different from being cleared and available to play. Quigley's apparently out tonight, though, so along with Stevens and Dolson that could get them the two hardship exceptions even if Heal's now available.

I thought Mack was replacing Dolson, not Heal?

Pretty cool that Dolson, Gray, Plum and Samuelson have a chance at the Olympics via the 3 on 3 team. I assume that part of the criteria is "past relationship with USA Basketball and not a member of the National Team". But "WNBA all-star" is not. Dolson is the only former WNBA all-star, in 2015 and 2017.

With Boyd-Jones being waived does that mean we can expect to see Heal in the next game?

Probably. That's likely why Boyd-Jones was released. But they haven't officially activated Heal, as far as I know, so it's not 100% yet.

Random news: Stephanie Watts has been signed to the Sydney Flames for the 2021/22 WNBL season (where she will play alongside Shyla Heal)

Going overseas to improve game speed has not helped Dolson.
