The United States will be sending college players to Puerto Rico, but presumably it will be closer to full national teams for everybody else:
https://www.usab.com/news-events/news/2021/04/usa-americup-trials-invitees-announced.aspx

I wrote about Centrobasket results a few weeks ago as some spots were awarded:
http://www.womensbasketball247.com/2021/03/centrobasket-march-24th-28th/

Top four teams qualify for the next qualifying stage, pending Olympic results.

I wonder how Aliyah Boston will feel if she has to play against the US Virgin Islands.

One more cut for the United States to be made closer to the tournament:

That's a nice collection of 13.

interesting to me that Ashley Joens didn't make the cut.
And now they have 13, it means they have to cut one more. Maybe they're waiting to see if there is an injury issue. If not, that will be pretty tough for that one player that doesn't make it.
also interesting that there were no UConn players involved. I guess they weren't including Freshmen.

In the past, UConn players were not able to participate in some USA Basketball events because Geno has some kind of summer workout program. Maybe that's the case here. I seem to recall one tryout where UConn players even showed up with the understanding they would not be on the team. I guess they were there to make the tryouts more competitive and to show their commitment (sort of) to USA Basketball.

Hailey Van Lith was in the original group, suggesting that there was no ban on freshmen. My reaction to the initial group was that there was obviously a huge amount of talent there, but that why Bueckers, Clark and Brink were missing would be the main topic raised. Then no one really seemed to care.

USA Basketball has not thought highly of Brink in the past. Of course they may have a different view now, but she did not get to play much when she made previous teams.

Dijibouti or Burundi would be happy to have Christyn Williams or many others not desired by USA.

Brazil announces their preliminary squad:
https://www.cbb.com.br/noticia/2250/jose-neto-anuncia-convocadas-para-a-americup-de-junho-em-porto-rico

They list Dantas when they would usually not have their WNBA players in a tournament like this, but they might be paranoid after the way they failed to qualify for the Olympics.

They have plenty of post players even if they have to wheel out Erika De Souza. The one they did not name is Stephanie Soares, who I would have liked to see against the college posts, but it looks like she missed the whole NAIA season.

Canada names a group including their WNBA players as they will train in Tampa:
https://www.basketball.ca/news/20-athletes-invited-to-attend-senior-womens-national-team-americup-training-camp

We could see Amihere, Boston, and Cardoso all face each other in San Juan.

AmeriCup tournament isn’t valued by their current WNBA players like they do Eurobasket tournament. No Dantas for Brazil. All college players for USA. This year’s Team USA is more like a Pam-Am team.

Day 1 is in the books:
http://www.womensbasketball247.com/2021/06/2021-americup-day-1-june-11th/

Argentina won quite easily. Venezuela is also a lot weaker than they could be so Group B is a lot less fun than it could have been on paper.

Unless they're relying heavily on Howard, this is a run and gun team that won't shoot many 3s. Expecting a close final against a more experienced Canadian squad.

Day 3, now with less Argentina:
http://www.womensbasketball247.com/2021/06/2021-americup-day-3-june-13th/

I suppose they would have needed a full strength team to have a reasonable chance at winning a quarterfinal, but imagine if a team that has an expectation of world cup qualification gets bounced by untimely virus cases.

Day 4 was Argentina's scheduled off day so no idea what is going on with them right now other than isolation and testing:

Group stage is in the books with Argentina being tossed:
http://www.womensbasketball247.com/2021/06/2021-americup-day-5-june-15th/

Puerto Rico-Colombia could be mildly competitive even if Puerto Rico should win easily so it feels like we are destined for boring quarterfinals. If the coaches could at least make sure that the Boston sisters play against each other on the court for a few minutes, then it would make the day more worth watching.

Colombia did challenge Puerto Rico, but the end results were as expected:
http://www.womensbasketball247.com/2021/06/2021-americup-quarterfinals-june-17th/

Puerto Rico plays the 9pm ET semifinal Friday against Canada so the United States and Brazil play at 6pm ET.
