I wouldn't count my chickens if I was Burke or Herbert-Harrigan because Laksa and Gorecki are coming hard for those last two spots

No, they have room to temp suspend and add one player, they don't have room to do it with two. So it's not 12 plus Russell and Prince, it's 11.

Arent Russell and Prince done in Turkey? They lost the finals yesterday i think

Yeah, but sometimes players want at least a tiny break between seasons, plus Covid protocols last about six days last I heard. So they're not going to be ready for opening day.

People in the know--- does she have a realistic chance to get picked up by another team?

How about as a replacement player for some team like the Liberty?

I think Hopkins wants post players with certain attributes -- in particular quick feet to play switching defense. Shooting 3s on offense helps too. People like Gustafson and Avery Warley-Talbert don't fit the profile. My guess is Shook makes the roster and Holmes sticks briefly as a replacement.

The Fever have waived Kathleen Doyle and Unique Thompson.

Rough day for fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes (like undersized_post).

Just a reminder that the same GM who selected Gondrezick in the lottery took Doyle over Dangerfield.

Exactly. And I still think the Fever ought to waive Lindsay Allen. Stanley needs to find as many minutes for lottery-pick Gondrezick as she can. It won't get easier once Allemand rejoins the team. It's theoretically painless to have to waive former second-round picks – but with Gondrezick, Catchings made her bed, and now the team has to lay in it. Same way I feel about the Storm's acquisition of Samuelson.

She also took Unique Thompson over at least five other players who are still on rosters

I wanted Unique to make it.

But, Doyle was a bad pick from the jump

That should be the Sun's last cut

Thanks for the shout out haha. But to be honest, all but the most annoyingly die-hard Iowa fans knew their (Doyle and Gustafson's) days were numbered on their respective rosters, so I'm not too disappointed. But I am surprised how many minutes they each played in their preseason games.

I'm surprised Doyle stuck on the Indiana roster for as long as she did. At least she got to play for a season, albeit limited minutes. Most WNBA hopefuls never even get that chance. I just wish it hadn't been during a pandemic so she could have had a more "real" experience.

Gustafson on the other hand...I thought she might stick around for a few more weeks given that Sabally and Kuier are still in Europe. Say what you want about me, but I'll continue to foster some naive optimism that another team might give her an opportunity to play. Razz

If you’re allowed to use a current player as a replacement player, I suppose Holmes will do. If not, maybe they won’t be so fussy and just take a warm body who will slide through protocols.

Oh well

TBH I knew it was going to happen but thought if I kept saying it wouldn't I could will it

what does that leave

Ionescu/Clarendon
Jones/Whitcomb/(Johannes)/(Durr)/Bailey
Laney/Odom/Richards/(Willoughby)
Allen/Onyenwere/Taylor
Howard/Stokes/Shook

A little surprise Bailey is still there, Taylor looks likely to survive until Howard is back

Is NY going to try and pull someone off of the waiver wire?

They still may very well bring her back on a roster-hardship contract. I can't imagine any team picking her up on waivers.

So, are they gonna play the whole season with 10 players?

Yes, I think that's a very likely scenario. A player has to be cut first before being brought back on a replacement contract. It's a lower pay scale and there are stipulations about the player leaving when the person they're replacing comes back.

I don't see that they have much choice

The league needs a better way to deal with injured players

Never a doubt in my mind she was going. Never. Never. Never. Ever.

No waiver surprises yet...

If only the Sun kept Fraser, then practically half the team would be a Terp.

Might we get a bunch of these?
