I wish! But it will never happen because her dad has some serious beef with the Iowa coaching staff, so I've heard, but I don't know why.

Can someone fill me in on why you all don't care for Bill Fenelly? I've never really had an opinion one way or the other on him. But I did want them to win this one.

A lot of people don't like Fennelly because he likes to stress how "family-oriented" the Iowa State program is

Oh MY. I did not now about this. All I want to say is that, as a flaming homosexual myself, I'm glad I'm a fan of the other Iowa school Twisted Evil

He says it's not used as a code word, it's just what he has to sell. And they have had lesbian players.

I read his explanation. I'm trying to withhold judgment because this was written 10 years ago and who really knows.

Coaches are disliked for a variety of reasons, including the type of offenses and defenses they play, their personalities, their demeanor, their losing records, their winning records, the way they look or dress, or derivatively from some reputational aspect of the school they work for.

No one can possibly know what percentage of homosexuals, heterosexuals, bisexuals, or anysexuals that any given school has had over the decades.

I'm imagining that the coaching staff at Iowa had issues with him and his antics and THAT's why he has an issue with them.

From what I saw/heard tonight in the 15 minutes or so that I watched, I'd call him toxic and wouldn't want him anywhere near my program.

I’ve also heard Fenelly called racist, but I have no knowledge of that.

As for Papa Jones, he seems like one of those obnoxious “sports dads”. I was not impressed.

I once knew a young lady, the youngest of three sisters who were all athletes of some note. This one was well on her way to a promising basketball career, but unfortunately she had one of those “sports dads”. He became so obnoxious that he was banned from the games, both home and away, in her junior season. She was so embarrassed that she quit the team and never played again.

A less athletic team struggling to handle end of game defensive pressure by a more athletic team is very common. If every defender is quicker than the player they are guarding, getting the ball in and not getting tied up is a challenge.

So why did Peck seem to be actively cheering for A&M? I don't know of any relation she has with the school.

That was some of the worst end game commentary I've ever heard. I finally just turned the sound off.

I remember this piece when it first came out -- Fennelly was only one of several coaches that, with prospective recruits, allegedly implemented the *dog whistle* effect of key phrases and ideas that seemed to foster images of the hetero paradigm. Yet I knew of a gay fan couple (guys) whose wedding Fennelly attended in support.

MY biggest hope that the past decade has diminished these kinds of things in this arena, and if it does exist, then let it be brought to light.

But then....what's THIS?? In this same article Geno's advocating self-euthanasia?? Shocked Shocked
Quote:
Connecticut coach Geno Auriemma says that if people are agitating to "tone down" the focus on family when it comes to recruiting, "everyone in this business ought to shoot themselves in the head." He adds, "If that's the direction people want to take it, they've lost their grip on reality."

THANK YOU! Her and Courtney Lyle do most of their work for the SEC Network, so they're familiar with the teams and players, which makes them fans. I think ESPN puts them on their games, like Anotnelli and LaChina with the ACC, because they're so knowledgeable. Debbie and LaChina can separate, Peck and Lyle can't. The way they call games during the NCAA tournament is downright unprofessional and frankly, not fair to the team that is playing whatever SEC team they're playing. Peck is terrible, we all know this. Lyle is terrible, too.....because she only works with Carolyn.

I've listened to a few games with Lyle and Peck that involve SEC teams and they actively cheer for the SEC during the broadcasts. My friend watches women's hoops, but certainly isn't an expert. She text messaged me during the Oregon State/South Carolina game and said, "why do these announcers appear to be rooting for and almost willing South Carolina to play better?"
