UCLA looking really smooth in the first quarter.
But so far they haven't been able to defend Charlisse.

UCLA leads 29-27 midway through the 2nd quarter.
The leger-Walkers have combined for 19 points on 5-9 3pt shooting

UCLA not quite so smooth when Onyenwere goes to the bench with two fouls.

Onyenwere (11) and Charisma Osborne (14) have combined for 25 of UCLA's 35 points and more surprisingly 21 of the teams 31 FG attempts. The Bruins need more from Chou, Bessoir, Corsaro and the rest.

Cougs lead by 7 at end of 3rd qtr. I think it will be a scrappy finish to this one.

I have long believed that the trip for the LA schools to Pullman is among the toughest in all of basketball. It is difficult to get there, often bad weather and a total culture shock. And with the Cougs having one of their best teams this season it is double tough.
An interesting note. Grace Sarver has 9 pts including 6-6 FT. Coming into the game she averages 1.8 pts and was only 2-5 FT total this season

Mediocre offensive basketball by both teams in the 4Q. WSU blowing it.
Best announced game I've seen all season. One guy calling every play while giving relevant game information. The way it should be. |

I've always thought the trip to Pullman is the toughest for all of the California and Arizona teams for the reasons you state. Personally I hated going there. Colorado is also tough because of the altitude. I think WSU and Colorado both have something like a five point advantage to start. Now that WSU actually has a team, it makes it really extra tough.

Is Onyenwere pronounced "Onion-weh-deh?" (particularly questioning the first syllable)

My one diss on the announcer is how he pronounces Bessoir. I swear it kept sounding like Dodson.

Can't help pulling in Pullman for the L-W sisters. UCLA's next ranking should be more realistic. I don't see them as a top five. |

I think it's more like Ahnion- wer -ay but have heard it at least 20 different ways.

They have a depth problem. If they're all playing well, they can be really tough and beat most anybody, but they don't have much leeway if somebody they rely on is 'off'. Here they can't afford for Osborne to shoot that poorly. And Miller is not really a starter on most teams. So they have two really good players as starters, two pretty good players, and one not so good post. I like the two they bring off the bench, but it's sometimes not enough.

but yeah, it's hard to not root for the sisters there. They are exciting to watch. I was worried about it last weekend for sure and very happy to get out of there with two wins.

There is a sampling of her own pronunciation of her name on UCLA's team roster page. Just click the little ear next to Onyenwere's name.

I never saw them as a top five team either. Their offense is too streaky and inconsistent.
