Gauff, who was born in Georgia and is now based in Florida, will be the 12th-youngest player to compete in women's singles at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament since professionals were first admitted in 1968. The 11 who were younger all got spots in the draw via direct entry, rather than qualifying. |

Gauff drew Venus Williams, the oldest player in the draw, in round one.

The symmetry/synchronicity is hilarious.

Gauff can just outrun Venus and win.

Before Coco Gauff, there was Taylor Townsend.
Townsend was one of a handful of young African-American players who grew up watching Venus and Serena Williams revolutionize the sport. She was the Australian Open girls champion in 2012 as a 15-year-old on her way to becoming the first American in 30 years to be the world junior No 1.
While the results ever since have been tough, she made the QF of the 2016 US Open and reached the 3rd round of this year's Australian Open.
Townsend won her first round match yesterday, setting up a second round clash with #4 seed Kiki Bertens.

In his first-ever Wimbledon appearance, #63 Reilly Opelka (6-11, 21 years old) upset three-time major champion Stan Wawrinka.
Opelka is one of three Americans who are 21 years old or younger moving up the rankings (the others being #31 Taylor Fritz and #38 Frances Tiafoe).

#27 Sofia Kenin could not replicate her magical run from the French Open (where she reached the fourth round after upsetting Serena Williams), falling in the second round of Wimbledon to 35th ranked (and unseeded) Dayana Yastremska.
#17 Madison Keys was upset by unseeded Polona Hercog in straight sets (6-2, 6-4). I have no idea why Keys does not do well on grass, despite having the big serve and power groundstrokes that are bigger advantages on grass (as opposed to clay). Since making the Wimbledon QF in 2015, Keys has lost in the 2nd round in three of the last four years.
Two-time AUS champ Victoria Azarenka continues her comeback trail (or tries to get her comeback on track) reaching the 3rdround of Wimbledon by routing Ajla Tomljanovic (6-2, 6-0).

Gauff wins over Rybarikova 63 63
You may remember Rybarikova reaching the semis here in 2017

I do believe I counted 19--NINETEEN--American women in this event....when is the last time that many Americans competed there in singles?

Halep was too big a hurdle for Gauff.
Two Americans in the quarters, Riske and Serena Williams. They will face each other, so one American will be in the semis.

Outside of the Gauff story, anyone else feel this was a rather boring tournament?

Speaking of boring, the men's semis are exactly as everyone predicted: Djokovic, Federer, Nadal, and whoever.

Hence why the women's tournament has been more exciting than the men's for the past ten+ years.
