Kevin McHale received a 3-year guaranteed contract extension last December, for $13 million. The Rockets then went on to the Western Conference Finals, losing to the league champion. McHale has the best record of any Houston Rockets coach, but the GM said he felt he had lost the players. McHale did say that there had been more team meetings in the last six weeks (apparently to address effort or cohesion) than there had been in his previous 4 years with the team.

It was a bit premature to can him after 11 games, but you don't fire players. McHale doesn't have the best record of Rockets' coaches though---highest winning percentage, yes at .598, but he's tied for third for most wins with Rick Adelman. Rudy Tomjonovich had the best record at 503-397. Bill Fitch was second in wins at 216-194.
