it should also be noted that the Dominican Republic, Grenada & Cyprus claimed their first ever Olympic medals the other day, dropping the number of countries to never win a medal from 80 to 77.

Didn't Felix Sanchez of the Dominican Republic win gold in 2004?

sorry, fixed it to say Guatemala instead of the Dominican Rep.

No problem.

And that's great for those 3 countries to have their first Olympic medalist.

Botswana can now be added to the list as Amos Nijel won silver in the men's 800m.

Bahrain is now officially on the list as Maryam Yusuf Jamal won bronze in the women's 1500m. Also, with Montenegro in the women's handball gold medal match & Gabon's Anthony Obame in the taekwondo men's 80kg+ gold medal match, both countries will be added to the list later today.

or simply Australia & New Zealand. no other countries from Oceania won a medal in these Olympics. In fact, the only other country from Oceania to ever medal was Tonga(1 silver - 1996 games - boxing).
