France up by 20 now. Going to be a fun final. They are a tougher matchup for the USA then Russia. And hopefully the Opals can win again from Russia |
Did Johnny ever beat you up for thinking France is better than Czech? |
No because he knows im right They are a more balanced team then the Czech who mainly rely on Eva |
Better or worse was not the point - upset or not was. Israel defeating France would be an upset, Czech Republic is not an upset. Top 10-12 European teams can beat each other on any given night. |

Someone needed to provide our commentators with a pronunciation guide - I cringed everytime they tried to pronounce just about anybody other than Hammon and Gruda. It was brutal.

And Sokolovskiy's random starting lineup generator comes up with Arteshina, Vieru and Zhedik today... |
I think it's because he just doesn't feel like he has enough players who are good enough to warrant a starting spot regardless of opponents - so he tries to compensate by picking based on matchups. Leaves them with absolutely no consistency of rotation though.
This is a thoroughly mediocre Russian team. They're just not very good. I'll be rooting on the Aussies in the bronze game.
It'll be a surprise if the French get close to the US in the gold game. |

It's truly fascinating how much they've degressed. They just don't have the talent anymore. They should be very worried. Teams in Europe are getting better and better. For instance, Italy dropped it's old roster and went with a completely new, fresh team in the Eurobasket Qualifier and did extremely well. We forget about it in the USA because we're always getting better, but sometimes nations go through good and bad generations. Australia is another prime example. Their peak was probably 2006 or 2008, but since then, they've declined. The game is constantly changing and it'll be interesting to see what teams stay afloat by 2016 or even 2014.
