She let Nigeria's guards dribble right around her, straight to the basket, multiple times on D. But it's OK because she made one wide open 3. Rolling Eyes

To be fair, no one on USA looks good rn.

She can score? At least she's hitting shots...most of the rest of the team looks pretty bad.

She's been the best player for team USA so far. The inability to view this objectively is hard for some on here, including myself but this was very expected from the goat.

Converting wide open shots does not the best player make.

USA finally grooving.

Charles and Griner is a strong duo. Wilson just a little green.

EDIT** She was green for one total quarter Wink

I mean, it kind of does when everyone else is missing them...

Honestly though Nigeria came out and punched the US in the mouth basically. Looked like it took a while for the US to acclimate more than anything else.

Nigeria has some nice players. What I enjoy about the Olympics is seeing players that WOULD get a shot in the league with more teams/roster spots. Fingers crossed for one day.

I'm about convinced that DT could score 100 points and some of you would never concede that she played well and was important to the team's win.

Yeah, not to disparage Nigeria! They played with a lot of hustle and threw the US off their game. That said, it was kind of telling that Staley's entire speech in one of those timeouts was "We gotta hit back "

DT was getting killed on D but then was one of the only US players hitting shots so it kinda evened out.

Love the dual post play between Griner and Stewart/Charles. When our offense was struggling I kept saying, "Where's Tina?" And when she finally got in she did exactly what I thought she would.

And I'm convinced DT could never again cross onto the defensive side of the court and some of y'all would still insist she deserves her starting spot on the roster. Laughing

And with Nigeria's sweet sweet buzzer beater, I'm off to bed. Night y'all.

Why is Sky-Diggs invited to Team USA to sit on the bench?

I'm kinda bummed for Skylar. I thought she would get burn when it was clear that Loyd wasn't adding anything in her 19 minutes.

Loyd will bounce back but that was a mildly rough debut. Was 5th on the team in minutes. Def didn't expect that.

The United States will have to gain some chemistry quickly. Nigeria was tough but there's much better ahead.

Interesting how long Bird is playing here in the 4th, seems like they'd want to rest her. Diggins-Smith could use some minutes anyway.

She did provide 40% of our offense behind the three-point line.

Zero guards having a positive +/- behind Bird and Taurasi is not, uh, encouraging (obviously with the caveat that individual +/- only tells so much but STILL).
