MSU's run last March created lots of new Spartan fans all across the country. Beginning with the Championship game against Baylor, however, and now extending to their games this year with Tennessee and LSU, MSU has been blown out by 20 points or more in every game with a 2005 Final Four team. (LSU won 72-52 tonight.)

Last year's victories over UConn and Tennessee might have established them, but should we consider MSU an elite team?

We had a thread about this last week, I think. Depends what "elite" means.

State is certainly a top 25 team. (So is Ohio State, though I think Michigan State is better-- not to mention a lot more fun to watch!) Both should certainly make the Sweet 16.

Minnesota and Purdue can certainly make the Sweet 16, but will they? We'll see. I hope so.

All these teams would be lucky to make the Elite Eight. If "elite" means top eight or top ten, then Stever is, unfortunately, correct.

I miss Lindsay. I miss Haynie. I even miss Strom. Who is the Big Ten's best PG this year? (Bowen? but she's really an SG. Crystal Smith?)

At this point in the season I dont feel any big ten teams are "elite teams" But then again, a lot of teams have shown inconsistancy. The only teams to not show inconsistancy are LSU, Duke, Baylor, Tennessee and UNC. So really, its anyones game come tourney time...

It all depends on the definitions.

For many posters, Top 25 doesn't seem to be good enough for "elite" status. How about Sweet Sixteen? Elite Eight?

My guess is that most people would say making the Elite Eight would qualify a team as "elite." Sweet Sixteen? Still open to debate. But I'd say yes.
