Since Clark and Bueckers tied for FOY, it seems unlikely that Bueckers would win POY...otherwise she'd have won FOY outright.

That makes some logical sense, but are a bunch of basketball writers always logical? Or maybe they had separate votes for NPOY and FOY.

OR . . . maybe Bueckers and Clark will tie for the NPOY award, too, which would be logical in that it's quite arguable that both are better players than the other four first teamers.

Paige Bueckers wins the USBWA NPOY award, called the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award.

http://www.sportswriters.net/usbwa/news/2021/amd210404.html

Quote:
The 5-11 guard from Hopkins, Minn., led the Huskies to their 13th straight Final Four and is the school's tenth winner and seventh different player to earn the USBWA's highest individual honor. She is the first freshman to win the award and joins six UConn greats – Breanna Stewart, Maya Moore, Tina Charles, Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird and Rebecca Lobo – who have combined for those previous nine awards. Stewart was a three-time winner, while Maya Moore was recognized twice.

The AMD name is confusing because the NHOF has an award by the same name for the best guard of the year, won by UTerps Owusu this year.

Bueckers has now won the NPOY from ESPN, AP, Naismith and USBWA. She was ineligible as a freshman for the Wade, which went to NaLyssa Smith. We still await the Wooden Award.
