If you told me the score was 26-24, I would have said it's much more likely halftime than end of 1Q.

This. I won't be surprised if the second quarter is much more of a grind.

I just reread that book recently and added a couple of pages to my favorite moments when I ran across Tony Bozzella's cameo. 10/10, highly recommended even if you're not a UConn fan.

And if you need to get the UConn taste out of your mouth afterwards you can always read Nice Girls Finish First for another school's take on that year. Twisted Evil

I’m actually teaching it in my class. I’ve got a lot of senior girl athletes, and a lot of kids love basketball. Kids seem to really like it.

One of my favorite moments from that book is when Geno, Pat, and their assistants (responsible for recruiting) were watching Beard play. (Whom neither UConn or Tenn recruited.)

Geno turns to Pat and says “they (their assistants) should be fired.” Laughing

That's one of the many pages I have dog-eared as a favorite moment.

Reading it in 2021 also accidentally turns it into a study in character development when you think about who these kids were in college and who they are now, especially Bird and Taurasi.

(I'll probably stop with the digressions at some point, but I do genuinely love this book and so many of the little moments it highlights.)

Even the following season..where Bird went from someone who “could be great when she wanted to” to POY.

And yeah, Diana’s growth has been something.

But yes..enough with the digressions. Laughing

Really though, the Edwards foul trouble hurts..

Edit: she was in the circle..

LOL both feet in the restricted zone. That would be a blocking foul on Didi.

This game has had some incredible blocks from both teams.

Carrington’s gotta be a WNBA player. Not going to be fooled by bench player nonsense.

Another bullshit offensive foul. But the worst part has been our defense and transition defense.

that was a pretty big flop on Carrington drawing that charge on ONO. UConn's gonna in be in foul trouble soon, it seems.

UConn needs ONO on defense but they lose momentum when trying to incorporate her into the offense.

She's a critical part of the offense, but as a passer. Posting her up (against a team with legit posts) almost never ends well for UConn.

I'm glad I don't have a Dog (or a Bear) in this race. Otherwise my blood pressure would be an issue.

Smith can’t hit anything. Carryngton carrying the team so far.

Well, at least we get Aaliyah back in the second..at least for five minutes.

Edit: tbh, this game is going to come down to whether Aaliyah can stay on the floor or not.

Yeah, UConn managed to squelch Smith, which was likely their #1 objective. But apparently didn't prepare for the supposed bench player.

UConn came out really hot. Would not have predicated Baylor to lead at halftime, but here we are!

ONO did not have a good final minute of the half.

Smith has returned to earth after her otherworldly shooting performance against Baylor.

Paige probably needs to take more shots?

Exciting game!

UConn defense not up to snuff. Very physical, and UConn losing on TO's and committing fouls as a result. ONO still a wimp finisher against contact. I have no memory of Carrington being this good at Stanford.
