On the front row, from left to right:
#32, Rebekkah Brunson
#6, Ruthie Bolton
#2, Chelsea Newton
Monty, their mascot
#9, Hamchetou Maiga-Ba
(Number blocked) I'm guessing that is Ticha Penicheiro
(Number & face blocked) I'm guessing that's Kara Lawson
Extreme right (#7), Erin Buescher

There's not a doubt in my mind that the player to the left (her left) of Maiga-Ba is Ticha.

OMG! This is SO great! I had season tickets for Monarchs in 2000-2001...
Those were the days!

Is it time for a rousing shout of "F*CK THE MALOOFS!"?

Am I the only one who thinks there is something a little distasteful about this? After all, the Monarchs are gone, as a result of a decision by the Kings.

But not the present ownership -- you can't really blame them, except of course for not having a WNBA team right now.

The Kings owner gave a Marc Cuban or Joe Lacob type statement in 2017 about a WNBA team:
Quote: |
“Right now we’re focused on completing Downtown Commons and opening The Sawyer as part of our $1 billion investment in downtown Sacramento. I’m a huge fan of women’s basketball and we remain open to the possibility of bringing a team back to Sacramento in the future.” |
He seemed like a good candidate for a team since he had talked about what he learned about basketball coaching his daughter's team and even gave the Kings coach advice in that regard:
Quote: |
He shared tactical experiences with Malone about coaching his child’s youth team, and pressed him to consider playing four-on-five defense, leaking out a defender for cherry-picking baskets. Some semblance of that strategy is expected to be employed with Corbin now, a source said. |

It did strike me as a little ghoulish, but Clay's point is accurate: this is not the ownership group that folded the Monarchs with minimal warning.

I suppose that's fair.
I don't follow the NBA, so I wasn't sure if it was the same ownership group or not.

Which was the same ownership group that of course tried to sell the Kings to Seattle-based owners.................................................

I'm sure some people are still upset over the Monarchs being dissolved by the Maloof's but the Kings are doing what other sports teams are doing by putting cardboard posters of former players and people to fill the seats. I think this was great idea to pay homage especially since there are no spectators allowed in some arenas.

A cynical person might note that these are pictures they know they have the rights to use...
