These are two teams that are built similarly and make defense their core identity. The regular-season game they had was won by USC 62-50 in Columbia - both teams shot under 40% and had 20+ turnovers. So expect this game to be another physical grind.....
Both UGA's Staiti and USC's Boston are averaging double-doubles in the tournament....

What word will we hear more: “deliberate” or “seniors”? |

Henderson, like Ogunbowale, is uncommonly effective on full court drives for layups through traffic. |

Not as low-scoring as I thought. UGA has a strong-shooting 1st Quarter to lead 23-17. One good thing is UGA's big girl Jenna Staiti has already picked up 2 fouls, and may not be seen again until the 2nd half, so hopefully Boston can do some damage inside. But UGA hit 3-4 of their 3-ptrs in the 1st Period: they were 4-4 in the 1st Period yesterday vs Texas A&M, so their offensive execution is very good in the tourney....

The second foul on Staiti was huge. It could easily have been another O-foul on Boston. Or even the ubiquitous double foul. That call, I suspect, may turn out to be the difference in the game.

I would have liked to seen that particular play be a no-call. Boston has gotten away with two other moments where she didn't get called for what would have been her second foul, when the refs have otherwise been calling it pretty tight.

UGA's shooting came back down to Earth, but USC's own shooting wasn't great either. A lot of fouls and turnovers both ways, but moreso for the Gamecocks. But it was the Gamecocks who hit the 3-ptrs., going 3-4 themselves in the 2nd Qtr., while UGA doesn't attempt one. Zia Cooke hits the final 3-ptr. at the halftime buzzer to tie the game score up, 35-35....

At the half, Cocks dominating rebounds, 20-12, but have a paltry 3 assists. |

I am surprised at how much better Georgia looks than they did early in the season.

Gamecocks have a much better quarter in the 3rd Qtr., as they out-score UGA 17-8 in the period and lead UGA 52-43 with the 4th Qtr. left to play. Aliyah Boston is leading the Gamecocks with 19 pts, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks. After shooting a torrid 9-15 (60%) in the 1st Qtr., the Bulldogs have shot 9-30 (30%) the rest of the way. Hopefully we keep it up for this final quarter....

A hair-pulling game, but the Gamecocks win to improve to 22-4, 14-2 on the season, as they win their 6th SEC Tournament Championship in 7 seasons.
Aliyah Boston led the way with 27 points on 8-12 shooting, 10-12 from the FT line, 10 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Destanni Henderson added 18 pts, 9 boards, and 3 assists....

Nice to see Georgia having made such strides; Landers had his heyday, but after their decline by the end of his watch, I was beginning to wonder if they'd ever return to be contenders again in the SEC. Nice to see the growth of parity there.

I find myself rooting for Georgia, even though Saudia Roundtree used us like a snot rag in Gampel in the 1995-1996 season. HA!
First, I like Joanie Taylor. She just seems so...nice. She has done a hell of a job rebuilding Georgia and I'll always root for a UCONN transfer, especially one I liked as much as Coombs. They need some shooters and Statie needs to stay out of foul trouble.

Another instance where the team that won the previous game seemed to have left it all on the floor there....I was rooting for Georgia all the way. Sometimes I think the best games are really the semifinals. Anyone else feel that way?
