So he’s as dumb as we thought? Nneka won’t win you a title alone Fishy. With CP’s departure her buddy Gray will most likely hit the high route as well. He’d better pray he’s not losing this core for Toliver & the Ogwumikes with B.Sykes as a supporter!

Yep. Don't be surprised if/when Gray leaves too... the incompetence of the Sparks FO the past few seasons... wow.

The goodwill showing of coaches to let their free agents talk to other teams imo isn't a bad strategy. If that's how the coaches think they can best build back trust with their players by letting them explore their options, then so be it. They'd have to really believe the player in question was on the fence about things (not leaning one way or another) and that there was a good chance at re-signing them though. Fisher apparently did, and it paid off.

But if it didn’t, what would we be saying? Razz

Still view it as somewhat of a boneheaded move on Fisher’s part, IMO. But of course, it worked so the scrutiny isn’t as high.

And I actually didn’t even know it was legal for cored free agents to take meetings with other teams. Guess it doesn’t matter, FISHER THE INNOVATOR!

New empowerment? Laughing

This League is marketing itself as having strong female empowerment, so Fisher said, that may as well be reflected in the negotiations! Razz

Would've been interesting and probably made more sense had Fisher cored Gray instead of Nneka, though. They have Chiney's rights – would Nneka really have left Chiney hanging by signing elsewhere? After all that Chiney went through just to be on the same team as Nneka? I don't know. Rolling Eyes And maybe Gray would've wanted out of LA no matter what. As it is, we still don't know if she's gonna sign with Vegas or get traded there in a supermax deal. We'll know a lot more about just how dumb Derek Fisher is after that happens (not that it would change some people's minds about him). Laughing

Did he have those "go see what you're worth" conversations with Gray and Parker too, or just with the player the team had cored and who thus couldn't go anywhere without the team being a party to it?

In either case... honestly, it's LA, the only thing that would surprise me is sustained common sense and frugality out of that front office.
