(Dear moderator: this was mentioned tonight in the thread about Brittney Griner, but I believe it deserves a thread of its own so no one misses it. If you disagree, please feel free to delete this new thread.)

THE QUEEN OF BASKETBALL has won an Oscar for Best Documentary Short Feature. It's about the late and great Lusia Harris, who in the 1970s led Delta State to three consecutive national women's basketball championships. Harris then played on the 1976 U.S. Olympic basketball team which won a silver medal; that was the first year of women's basketball in the Olympics.

Harris was selected by the New Orleans Jazz in the seventh round of the 1977 NBA draft. She was skeptical about their intentions and never went to training camp. Eventually she coached both college and high school women's basketball teams.

The documentary runs 22 minutes and can be viewed for no charge on YouTube. It was directed by Ben Proudfoot; among the many executive producers are Stephen Curry and Shaquile O'Neal. The film has some excellent footage from the 1970s and draws heavily on a video interview with Lusia Harris (who died months ago).

In accepting the Oscar tonight, Mr. Proudfoot urged President Biden to "bring Brittney Griner home."

What a great wbb team. In the 90s, this was the ONLY team not named UND or NDSU to win a national championship. Yes, this was Div 2, but don't take anything away from them. This was Div 2 wbb only in name. Those Bison and Sioux squads in the 90's could run with the best of the div 1 teams.

You're right about Delta State in the 1990s, but this has nothing to do with Lusia Harris or THE QUEEN OF BASKETBALL. Lucy led Delta State to three consecutive AIAW national championships in the mid 1970s. That was before the NCAA essentially took over women's college basketball.
