Do most WCBB teams travel by commercial airlines? How many of them have access to charters? |
I’m guessing most P5 schools charter.

5 actually. Purdue was supposed to open with Bowling Green but that got pushed back to mid-December.

JMU was going to play Marquette this Friday. They are playing Buffalo instead. Either way we get a good game.Had our first socially distanced game today (see game discussion) and boy was it!

Where was that game supposed to be? Marquette didn't announce their non-conference schedule until super late and that wasn't mentioned of course since it sounds like it got canceled for some reason.

I don’t know if this is a workaround game or if the schedule wasn’t revealed earlier due to caution, but Michigan will be playing at Notre Dame on Thursday at 6:00, ACCN.

Oklahoma had to drop out of the Bad Boy Mowers Crossover Classic. They were scheduled to play Gonzaga Saturday at 3 pm, South Carolina at 12:30 Sunday, and then South Dakota Monday at 3 pm.
Now South Carolina will open versus South Dakota at 3 pm as planned, and then play Gonzaga Sunday at 12 pm. Gonzaga opens its tournament with SC Sunday, then plays South Dakota Monday at 12 pm. South Carolina will head home Monday I suppose.....

It remains to be seen what will happen for Stanford and San Jose State with new restrictions Santa Clara County put in place starting Monday and going for 3 weeks that ban all professional, collegiate and high school sports:

From Hoopfeed.com:
Official statement from Stanford: "Stanford Athletics is aware of today’s announcement by Santa Clara County and remains in close communication with University and County officials at this time on appropriate next steps. Further details will be provided as they become available."

If the projections are right, and this surge won't reach its peak until Dec. 15 -- and could get worse after that -- my sense it will be very hard for any kind of team sports to continue.
The NCAA's primary concern is financial (certainly not the welfare of student-athletes), as its actions show. Cancelling summer recruiting, when COVID was much less widespread, saved tens of millions of dollars, and maybe hundreds of millions if all sports are factored in. The rationale was the threat of COVID.
The NCAA is playing now because game generate revenue for the member schools, even though the situation is much worse. The rationale? Well, there really isn't one, except to make some money (even if the virus spreads and people die as a result).
Any kind of morally or ethically driven organization would shut down contact sports and travel immediately, but this is the NCAA -- and we know how high morality and ethical behavior rate on its list of priorities.

maybe Stanford will play the double headers with Washington schools at Cal...unless Alameda County goes lockdown as well. And the UC Davis game at Davis. The San Diego game is probably too soon to reschedule.

The peak is going to come in early-mid January, when, having learned nothing from the post-Thanksgiving spike, the fallout from not socially distancing over Christmas and New Year's reaches its maximum. Various states have already mandated a quarantine for people involved in non-essential travel, so sports organizations may have their hands tied. Youth hockey in New England and NJ has already been banned from interstate travel.

I think the Ivy League made the right call. This is going downhill fast.

However, coach Tara VanDerveer said her No. 2-ranked women’s basketball team canceled Monday’s game and will not play or practice at the school until the restrictions are lifted. The Cardinal had four home games and three road contests scheduled through Dec. 21.
“We’ll be playing when it is safe,” VanDerveer said. “We’re flexible. We will do what we’re told to do and what we can do.”
