Congrats to her, it was well deserved. Hines-Allen was also very deserving, but being a Dream fan, I was glad Laney took it.
I don't understand the 1 vote for Angel though. She's a great comeback story, not improved. Were they going off that minute she played last year?

Most Improved
Kim Perrot Sportmanship
All-WNBA teams
All-Defensive teams
edit: while I was posting this, Laney got her well deserved MIP. WooHoo! |
Also the All Rookie team

+1 no way they leave off Ogunnaballe aka a scoring goddess for 2 players on losing teams as well. Bonner might get the benefit of position, but Arike is 1st team . Sorry DT. |
ROFL that would be insane. Lottery team and outside of the top 10 in efficiency does not qualify a 1st teamer.

In fact, no player who played on a non-playoff team and finished outside the top 10 in the league in PER has ever made 1st team All WNBA

I would have voted for Hines-Allen personally, but this award makes complete sense. And I am glad to see that it was closer than I expected it to be.
That said, whoever voted for Angel should never get to vote for an award again. That's insane.

I'm probably the biggest McCoughtry fan on this board, and I wouldn't have voted for her, but I don't know how "insane" it is. Career high efficiency as the second option for the #1 seed isn't enough, but it ain't nothing.

Multiple Olympian who is an all-time great and should have at least one MVP.
If Angel is the "most improved" this award has no meaning at all.

I mean, if you want to be completely pedantic, she did technically improve her scoring average by better than fourteen points, over the previous season. That's pretty impressive.

She's now gotta be in the running for the Best Management award after this successful DPOY campaign.

Laney has become the player that I envision she would become out of college. I was happy when the Sky drafted her. I was sad when she was waived.

It has too be very unusual to have as many as four unanimous selections.
Congrats to Jones, in particular. I love when a player accomplishes something unexpected like that.

If you add up the draft position of the players - so this group would be 2 + 4 + 12 + 16 + 33 = 67 - would this be the highest total ever? |

To answer my own question, that award probably goes to 2007, depending on how many points you give undrafted Marta Fernandez: https://twitter.com/WBBTimeline/status/1310250098429919232?s=20 |

Los Angeles Sparks forward Nneka Ogwumike has been named the recipient of the 2020 Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award, the WNBA announced today. This is the second straight Sportsmanship Award for Ogwumike, who joins Seattle Storm guard Sue Bird (2017, 2018) as the only players to earn the honor in consecutive years. |

The Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award is presented each season to a player who exemplifies the ideals of sportsmanship on the court, including ethical behavior, fair play and integrity. |
Meh. She has never exemplified those things on the court for me, especially early in her career when she has throwing defenders around and yelling and1 into their faces. She may have calmed down with age lately. Considering she has won this award twice in a row now (and Clarendon was a top candidate) it seems like she’s winning the award more for her work with the player’s union.
