De Blasio blamed the NYC rioting on an “organized group of anarchists”, which sounds like code for Antifa, and like in Minnesota he suggested they were from outside the city. But today he conceded that some rioters were local.

San Francisco made their 8 pm curfew indefinite and Philadelphia moved their curfew from 8pm to 6pm today.

Black Organizers ‘Enraged’ by White Agitators ‘Here to F*ck Shit Up’

Quote:
As protests spread to more than 30 cities on Friday, a disturbing trend emerged: masked protesters, many of them white, were hijacking protests and stoking violence.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, this is what I was referring to above:

People on their front porch, which is not a violation of the curfew order as it is their own property.

Guy drove his oil tanker into a crowd of protesters on a portion of I35 that was closed. Luckily no one was seriously hurt.

Protesters climbed into both the tractor and the trailer of the semi and forced him to stop. He is now under arrest.

Nice of the cops to let him onto the closed freeway...

Kentucky: Louisville
Michigan: Detroit
Minnesota: Minneapolis, St. Paul
Missouri: Kansas City
New Jersey: Atlantic City

At least it's multi-racial looting and violence. My friends who live in Santa Monica have been barricaded in their home all weekend. Their neighborhood has boarded up their windows, which are being broken. She's a nurse and can’t' get to work safely...police are no longer providing escorts. They're afraid their building will be set on fire.

I'm still waiting to see Thomas actually apply his thoughts on that matter to the police. Grumbling about "growing concern" is one thing, actually voting to end it is another.

Qualified immunity is one of those areas that exposed Scalia's "originalism" as a sham. There is no originalist basis for it. It was created by the courts.

Gregg Popovich unleashes fiery statement on Trump: 'What we have is a fool in place of a president'

Quote:
“The thing that strikes me is that we all see this police violence and racism and we’ve seen it all before but nothing changes. That’s why these protests have been so explosive. But without leadership and an understanding of what the problem is, there will never be change. And white Americans have avoided reckoning with this problem forever because it’s been our privilege to be able to avoid it. That also has to change.”

Quote:
“It’s unbelievable. If Trump had a brain, even if it was 99 percent cynical, he would come out and say something to unify people. But he doesn’t care about bringing people together. Even now. That’s how deranged he is. It’s all about him. It’s all about what benefits him personally. It’s never about the greater good. And that’s all he’s ever been.

Quote:
“It’s so clear what needs to be done. We need a president to come out and say simply that ‘Black Lives Matter.’ Just say those three words. But he won’t and he can’t. He can’t because it’s more important to him to mollify the small group of followers who validate his insanity. But it’s more than just Trump. The system has to change. I’ll do whatever I can do to help because that’s what leaders do. But he can’t do anything to put us on a positive path because he’s not a leader.

“It’s like what Lindsay Graham and Ted Cruz used to say when they had the courage to say it: He’s unfit. But they have chosen instead to be invisible and obsequious in the face of this carnage. In the end what we have is a fool in place of a president, while the person who really runs the country, Senator Mitch McConnell, destroys the United States for generations to come. McConnell has destroyed and degraded our judicial system. He has tried to destroy heath care. He’s destroyed the environment. He’s the master and Trump’s the stooge, and what’s funny is that Trump doesn’t even know it. Trump’s always wanted to be part of the in-group, but McConnell is an in-group of one and Trump plays the fool.

“He’s not just divisive. He’s a destroyer. To be in his presence makes you die. He will eat you alive for his own purposes. I’m appalled that we have a leader who can’t say ‘Black Lives Matter.’ That’s why he hides in the White House basement. He is a coward. He creates a situation and runs away like a grade-schooler. Actually, I think it’s best to ignore him. There is nothing he can do to make this better because of who he is: a deranged idiot.”

Quote:
“[The protests] are very necessary, but they need to be organized better. It’s frustrating. When Dr. King did a protest, you knew when to show, when to come back the next day. But if you’re just organizing protests and everyone is coming and going in every direction, it doesn’t work that way. If it was nonviolent, they knew to be nonviolent, but this is muddled. More leadership would be very welcome so these incredible mass demonstrations can’t be used by people for other means. We can limit the bad, but only if things are organized better.”

Peaceful Protesters Were Gassed Outside The White House So Trump Could Get A Photo Op At A Church

Quote:
Rev. Mariann Budde, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, said she was outraged by the use of violence against protesters, telling the Washington Post the president used the church "as a prop."

"I don't want President Trump speaking for St. John's," Budde said. “I am the bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington and was not given even a courtesy call that they would be clearing with tear gas so they could use one of our churches as a prop, holding a Bible, one that declares that God is love and when everything he has said and done is to enflame violence."

She can be outraged all she wants. Trump's evangelical base will love it, because the American evangelical community loves nothing more than pain and misery for people they hate. It is their guiding principle.

The visual of that made me smile.

The Bishop was just on CBS this Morning. Pretty much said the same thing. She did say that she is from Minneapolis and has family there. Said that there are deep racial divides there.

Illinois gov. Pritzker says that Trump is a "miserable failure" as pres.

Quote:
“He wants to change the subject from his failure over coronavirus, a miserable failure. And now seeing a moment when there’s unrest because of the injustice that was done to George Floyd that he now wants to create another topic and something where he can be the law and order president. He’s been a miserable failure.”

Trump is either too stupid to understand what is going on or is too much of a prick to care.
Quote:
“Rhetoric coming out of the White House is making it worse, people are experiencing real pain,” he [Pritzker] said. “We’ve got to have national leadership calling for calm and legitimate concern for protestors.”

“I don’t like your rhetoric that much either,” Trump fired back. “You could have done much better on coronavirus.”
