At least Mangakahia is finally through. As a rookie she'll be older than Brionna Jones, who is starting her 5th WNBA season.

Is there a league rule against wearing long nails? I know DiDi Richards likes to wear her nails long. They would be a safety hazard to other players.🤕

I find this quite interesting. In HS ball here, as a ref we can in fact tell a player they must cut their nails in order to play if we deem them a safety hazard. Mostly coaches take care of it beforehand so it doesn't come up.

Did Mulkey withdraw because she wants to use her extra year of collegiate eligibility, or is she moving on to other pursuits?

I think so but at least she and Gondrezick can continue to use super long spider looking eye lashes.

Cheryl Ford used to wear hers long. This was a topic and even a poll right before Game 1 of the 2006 Finals

I don’t think they can withdraw unless they go back to school. I don’t believe they can decide not to be drafted. This would be more relevant with a more prominent player. Mulkey probably wouldn’t get drafted anyway. Might be why she withdrew. Probably didn’t get the feedback she wanted.

No real need to withdraw unless she wants to go back to school. If you're leaving you might as well stay in the draft pool, even if you're not all that interested (and/or don't think anyone will select you). No harm in it.

I’m going to use Mechelle Voepel’s latest draft projection to guide my Instagram relevant follower chart. Some GM or coaches either don’t have a personal Instagram accounts or I don’t know what they are, but the person with the most first round picks does have Instagram and is making full use. This isn’t some kind of exact science but some might find it interesting or useful.

Huw Hopkins
@TheHoopsNerd

While not confirming if @DallasWings might select @KuierAwak with one of their top picks, @greg_bibb believes she is above average in many areas for her age but needs to get stronger – “Her potential is off the charts”

Today is apparently the last day players who have submitted their entries into the Draft can back out of it by rescinding their entries & returning to school. (Here’s a link.)

She’s already graduated college, and we’ve already heard of people who didn’t apply for the draft that are leaving college, so well it may not have been necessary to withdraw, it is possible she just decided professional basketball wasn’t for her.

Sky need a backup point guard, and two were on display in NCAA title game
https://chicago.suntimes.com/chicago-sky-and-wnba/2021/4/10/22367993/sky-need-backup-point-guard-ncaa-championship-aari-mcdonald-kiana-williams-wade-wnba-draft

Quote:
Sky coach James Wade sat with players Diamond DeShields, Azura Stevens and assistant coach Emre Vatansever for the NCAA women’s national championship, keenly watching two guards — Arizona’s Aari McDonald and Stanford’s Kiana Williams — who are on his radar, considering the Sky hold the eighth overall pick in the 2021 WNBA Draft.

Quote:
“Those are two of the point guards we’re looking at,” Wade said.

Quote:
Ideally, Wade is looking for someone to come in and play 10 minutes a game.

Quote:
The priority now is getting a guard who will be with the Sky for the long haul.

Never know how long Sloot will stay.

Quote:
There are between four and five players in this class who Wade is considering.

If he’s considering that many, he should definitely land one of them.

Quote:
He has no plans to trade up in the draft, which will take place Thursday.

The second annual Her Hoop Stats multi-GM WNBA Mock Draft podcast is out, if anyone's interested. Our various writers take on the roles of the different teams and make our own selections as if we were running things. I got to be New York and Seattle this year, and probably went in directions that none of you would actually like Wink. There are one or two other surprises along the way, too. Apple and Spotify links below, and should be available from all the usual outlets.

Aw Richyyy, just admit it. Onyenwere is like one of only four college players you actually heard of -- the others being Collier, Evans, and Kiana Williams. I mean, could you tell the difference between Kysre Gondrezick and Kaiser Wilhelm? Razz

However, you might actually get lucky with Onyenwere going to New York. Kolb has said he is not picking for need. Onyenwere kinda reminds me of a bigger Jazmine Jones, so she fits the mold. And if Hopkins is willing to use 130 lbs Marine Johannes at small forward, then I suppose Onyenwere can play power forward for him. All things considered, as good a pick as any. Wink

I'm liking the Dallas GM picks.

I was kinda iffy on the Evans pick at 5 - but, after second look it should make for nice rotations with other players if one set is not working.

Rupert played in three ELW games all year, scoring a total of 28 points, 18 of which were in a meaningless game at the end between two teams who were already out. So, yay?

Kuier's always been the flashier prospect anyway. Being Finnish rather than French is also appealing.
