Many of you may be aware that there's been some push back from healthcare workers regarding their urgent need for PPE and the US administration's ineptitude in supplying it. An organization called GetUsPPE.org has formed to help source and distribute supplies as well as advocate for more government help. They have an online petition that they're presenting to Congress this afternoon in support of the Medical Supply Chain Emergency Act in Congress.

Their recent Email about this:

Quote:
Join us today on Facebook Live at 3 PM ET as we deliver our petition to Congress!

Thank you for taking action with GetUsPPE. You and more than 2 million people have signed petitions from GetUsPPE, MoveOn, FrontlinePPENow. Today, these groups will be joined by labor partners such as National Nurses United, SEIU, and American Federation of Teachers urging Congress to take swift action to ensure that all frontline healthcare workers have adequate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) on the job. Join us at 3 PM on Facebook Live by signing up here.

Here are our demands:

Production of protective masks.

Release more of its PPE stockpile immediately.

Give all healthcare and medical workers immediate and free access to COVID-19 testing.

Establish a minimum standard of protection for healthcare workers using N95 masks.

Use the authorities provided by the Defense Production Act to ensure the timely and adequate manufacture and distribution of sufficient PPE.

Congress has already started responding to our national movement. Legislation has been introduced in the Senate and House to generate the necessary amount of masks, gloves, and ventilators our frontline healthcare workers are saying they need to tackle the crisis. Click here to join us for the Facebook live at 3 PM. https://actionnetwork.org/events/facebook-livestream-get-us-ppe-petition-delivery/?link_id=4&can_id=f6388d8996e8fc2c4de00ddb13794505&source=email-join-us-as-we-deliver-our-petition-to-congress&email_referrer=email_778897&email_subject=join-us-as-we-deliver-our-petition-to-congress

After we deliver this letter, we must continue to fight. GetUsPPE is a movement of healthcare providers and allies dedicated to getting PPE to the frontline healthcare workers of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Defense Production Act is the White House’s most important tool for addressing a crisis like the one we’re in right now. Trump hasn’t taken this action, so Senator Chris Murphy and Representative Tim Ryan introduced the Medical Supply Chain Emergency Act, which would require the production of 500 million masks, 200,000 ventilators, 20 million face shields, 500 million pairs of gloves and 20 million surgical gowns.
P.S. If you haven’t signed our petition yet, you can do so here.

Forward Together,

GetUsPPE Advocacy Team

Please consider signing the petition at their website. Their server appears to be a bit overwhelmed today so it may take several tries to get on.

Anderson Cooper was just outraged on CNN about the fact that we don’t have enough swabs for tests. He demanded to know why we weren’t making enough swabs. His guest said that Trump had the authority to force companies to make those swabs. I suspect he left out “but right now they are all made in China”. When you allow one country to do 1/3 of the world’s manufacturing, you may have trouble getting stuff in a global pandemic.
