Defeating Mitch McConnell may be as important or maybe moreso than defeating Trump.

McConnell falls behind in the money race as small donors flock to McGrath
Quote:
Millions are pouring into the Kentucky Senate race as small donors throw cash at former Marine Amy McGrath in her probable challenge to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

McGrath outraised McConnell in the first quarter of this year, reporting she received $12.8 million while the Republican incumbent raised $7.8 million. She now edges out McConnell in total fundraising, bringing in nearly $30 million to his $25.6 million. The Senate majority leader is projected to win the seat but by a narrow margin, according to polling data analyzed by FiveThirtyEight.

McGrath is attracting small donors from both in and out of state, making up 63 percent of her fundraising total through the end of 2019. Small donors make up just 16 percent of McConnell’s funds, totaling nearly $2.8 million as he relies more on PACs and his colleagues’ campaign coffers.

Banking on Democrats’ dislike for McConnell, McGrath has also issued several Facebook ads targeting the incumbent senator’s handling of the Coronavirus outbreak.

Gonna be a Very Happy Day when that POS loses.

Removing the Evildoers McConnell, Trump, (and therefore) Barr will be one of the greatest political election results in US history, imo.

Amy McGrath Takes Narrow Lead Over Mitch McConnell in Kentucky Senate Race, Poll Shows
https://www.newsweek.com/amy-mcgrath-takes-narrow-lead-over-mitch-mcconnell-kentucky-senate-race-poll-shows-1509691

Quote:
The polling, which was conducted by RMG Group, shows McGrath, a former Marine fighter pilot, with the support of 41 percent of voters, while McConnell is backed by 40 percent. However, the polling also showed that when voters are informed that McGrath supports congressional term limits while McConnell does not, her lead over the Republican jumps significantly.

With the candidates' positions on term limits factored in, McGrath was backed by 45 percent of respondents, while McConnell was supported by just 30 percent. But 17 percent of those surveyed were still undecided, and 8 percent said they'd vote for a different candidate.

She's struggling to win a primary where she has huge advantages in both money and name recognition. She won't have either of those thing against McConnell.

Amy McGrath just won her unexpectedly close Kentucky Senate primary
https://www.vox.com/platform/amp/2020/6/30/21301591/amy-mcgrath-kentucky-senate-primary-mcconnell

Quote:
Retired Marine fighter pilot Amy McGrath will face off against Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell this fall, after winning a closer-than-expected primary against progressive challenger Charles Booker.

Quote:
Perhaps benefiting from Democrats’ distaste for McConnell, McGrath has been raking in fundraising cash. She’s raised over $40 million since entering the race, more than the Republican incumbent has raised. McGrath has been the benefactor of Democratic donors who would like nothing more than to see McConnell gone; 96 percent of her donations are from out-of-state donors, according to OpenSecrets.

McGrath will need that money to take on McConnell, but it also will take a carefully executed strategy to actually beat him in a state that Donald Trump won by 30 points in 2016 and where he still enjoys a 17 percent net approval rating. Trump will almost certainly win Kentucky in 2020, so the best Democrats can hope for is a split-ticket scenario where pro-Trump voters don’t cast their ballot for McConnell. Democrats are also hoping they can replicate Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear’s 2019 playbook of flipping some suburban areas around the blue centers of Louisville and Lexington that saw massive Democratic turnout.

She might have a financial edge, but it won't be that big. Certainly not like what she had in the primary.

None of the Democrats were coming close to beating McConnell. Not sure why this primary got so much attention.

That said, McGrath is a really terrible candidate. She is one of the few Democrats to underperform in 2018, losing a race that was clearly winnable when considering the landscape. She committed a bunch of unforced errors in this race, and almost blew it despite broad name recognition, national support, and a huge money advantage.

I get that she made a compelling campaign commercial once, I but I am baffled why she is the one national Democrats pushed in this race. I guess the bench is just that short in Kentucky.
