Don’t think the military was going to be brought in to "bear against long oppressed people who are crying for justice". That is, it wasn’t the protesting that Trump was trying to stop. It was going to be brought in to protect property from being destroyed or stolen and to protect shop owners or their friends from being beaten or murdered.

Senator Joe Biden was an enthusiastic supporter of the Clinton administration's 1033 Program, greatly expanding the transfer of military equipment to police forces.

She did make a great case for why things like the burning of a police station and people pouring out of a Target with stolen merchandise wasn’t what bothered Trump. Not to mention demonstrating that it wasn’t people storming the White House to such a peaceful extent that it forced him into a bunker and injured numerous secret service agents

Have any shop owners been beaten or murdered?

I said shop owners or their friends (who were trying to protect the store).

Someone was murdered trying to protect a neighbor’s pawn shop: Retired St. Louis police captain, 77, shot dead amid unrest outside pawnshop

Woman beaten badly in Rochester trying to stop looting and destruction: Video shows woman attacked outside Rochester business

Store owner beaten unconscious in Dallas: Shocking moment Dallas rioters hurl ROCKS at 'business owner who tried to defend his store with a sword' then brutally beat him unconscious during night of violence in the city

Man beaten and teeth kicked out by Portland rioters: Graphic Video: Rioters Brutally Beat Man in Portland, Kick Him So Hard Teeth Are Left on the Road

It is notable that despite video for the three beatings, none appear to have been picked up by any major media outlets. At least they don’t show up in a search. The Rochester one did get local news coverage.

OMG pilight. Beaten? YES. The videos are horrible.

But how about this? The legendary local institution The Santa Monica Homeopathic Pharmacy, where we’ve been getting advice and buying herbs (my Chinese herb Artemisia) and other (sort of) cutting edge natural remedies and such for 20 years or so, was looted and the owner beaten and injured. This is a guy I’ve been joking with forever. And he’s way older than me. Probably 75.

There’s a big staff there for such a small place, probably a dozen in the store at any one time. All women except for the owner and another old guy. What’s the status of that place now going forward and the jobs of these kind knowledgeable females who worked there? This place is nationally known.

And ANOTHER one joins the ranks of retired military brass who are calling out Trump, and declaring their allegiance to Biden.
Quote:

"The Republican party, the president thought they were immune, they can say anything they wanted," Powell said. "And even more troubling, the Congress would just sit there and not in any way resist what the president is doing."

Powell is amazing. Wish he ran for President back in 2000.

Now, now....let's not get "ageist" here.... Laughing

It's true, tho...."average" ages in Congress oughtta be much lower, and percentages of females/people of color oughtta be much higher. And -- if *I* were in charge -- there oughtta be a restriction on congressional members that are millionaires at the time of their election.

Powell went in front of the United Nations and showed satellite photographs of buildings and made ridiculous statements like it contained somewhere between 5 and 500 tons of some WMD (as the engineers say, a difference of two orders of magnitude), and forgot to tell them that the spies had not been able to direct UN WMD inspectors to a single site where they had them, including the buildings he was claiming had them. And he is upset about what kind of lies? But I suppose the UN body wasn't that stupid. They all had to know they didn't have them if Hans Blix and company couldn't be directed anywhere they were in hundreds of tries. In a perfect world he would have been one of those on trial for war crimes.

Hear, hear! And SCOTUS judges, too....maybe 10 year limits, as opposed to 'for life'. And who might make those decisions? Congress itself. Razz

Trump job approval rating plunges 10 points in a month: Gallup
https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/502022-trump-drop-approval-rating-plunges-10-months-in-a-month-gallup

Quote:
President Trump's job approval rating plunged 10 points in the latest Gallup survey amid massive protests over the death of George Floyd and uncertainty about the coronavirus pandemic.

Gallup found that 39 percent of Americans now approve of the job Trump is doing, a steep drop from the president's personal high of 49 percent achieved in May.

Trump's job approval rating is down 7 points among Republicans to 85 percent, the lowest point for the president within his own party in almost two years. Trump is also down 7 points among independents to 39 percent. Only 5 percent of Democrats approve of the job Trump is doing.

Former Presidents George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter are the only incumbents on record to have approval ratings in the 30 percent range in June of an election year. Both lost their reelection bids.

Trump threatens CNN over poll he doesn't like

Quote:
President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign sent a cease-and-desist letter to CNN demanding that it retract and apologize for a poll showing Joe Biden with a 14-point lead in the race for the White House.

“We stand by our poll,” a CNN spokesperson said.

Some highlights:

All international executive agreements and political arrangements entered into by the current Administration must be deemed null and void as mere expressions of the current president’s preferences.

The current President and his allies on Capitol Hill have used those agencies as a superlegislature, disregarding the separation of powers, to declare as law what they could not push through the Congress.

That sound consensus was replaced with impotent grandstanding on the part of the current President and his Secretaries of State. The results have been ruinous for all parties except Islamic terrorists and their Iranian and other sponsors.

The current Administration’s way of dealing with these violations of world trade standards has been a virtual surrender.

The current Administration is trying to seize control of the zoning process

At the cost of billions, the current Administration has done little to advance our goal of universal broadband coverage

facing the task of cleaning up the wreckage of the current Administration’s policies

Why Donald Trump's 'Juneteenth' speech will be a disaster

Quote:
(CNN)Donald Trump will return to the 2020 campaign trail on June 19 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a move freighted with racial symbolism and one almost certain to end poorly for the incumbent president.

The selection of Tulsa as the place where Trump returns to the stump and the date on which he is choosing to do it both suggest that Trump's long-whispered-about race speech -- in the wake of ongoing protests and unrest following the death of George Floyd -- will happen next Friday, and at a campaign rally no less.

Tulsa was the site of one of the most vicious acts of racial violence in American history when, in 1921, a mob of white people attacked a section of the city known as Greenwood or "Black Wall Street" and murdered hundreds of African Americans. (The event was the basis for HBO's "Watchmen" series.) And June 19, which has become commonly known and celebrated as Juneteenth, or Emancipation Day, commemorates the anniversary of the reading of the General Orders, No. 3, which officially informed slaves that they were free.

Its hard not to see this as intentional by the Trump campaign. While Oklahoma has no set limit on group gatherings, it's not a swing state, so there's no other obvious reason -- other than to address racial issues -- that Trump would stage his first rally in the state (and Tulsa particularly). And Trump could have done the rally on lots of days -- 364 of them actually! -- that don't commemorate the emancipation of slaves.

Highlights (which I found interesting, in light of history and some of the current administration’s policies, executive orders, and actions):

“All international executive agreements and political arrangements entered into by the current Administration must be deemed null and void as mere expressions of the current president’s preferences.”

“The Republican path to fiscal sanity and economic expansion begins with a constitutional requirement for a federal balanced budget … Only a constitutional safeguard such as this can prevent deficits from mounting to government default.”

“That same provision of law is now being used by bureaucrats — and by the current President of the United States — to impose a social and cultural revolution upon the American people by wrongly redefining sex discrimination to include sexual orientation or other categories.”

“We support maintaining and, if warranted, increasing sanctions, together with our allies, against Russia unless and until Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are fully restored.”

It also reminds you of the absolute lunacy gripping the Republican party that this was their platform.
