The two match-ups are a blood bath. I was expecting Catchings vs. McCoughtry to be a bit close, but right now it's 94% vs. 6%. Should make for a fun match-up between Moore & Catchings.

I absolutely thought both these matchups would be blowouts in favor of the higher seed.

Three MVPs and four rings or one MVP and three rings, you make the call!

Going to be a close one. Both should've had longer careers in the W.

Don’t forget three DPOY awards. With that said, I don’t expect anyone in this tournament to receive more votes than Taurasi.

Catchings with the early lead over Maya Moore.

She's the better player, so that makes sense.

Maya Moore has never played on a team that wasn't loaded. Not in high school, college, or the pros. Even with Taurasi, you can go back to 2004-2006 and be like, "Okay, so that's what it looks like when she's not surrounded by top talent." Maya Moore's never had that, in her career. Makes it hard to get a proper gauge of her greatness, in my opinion.

And, not to throw too much shade, or to dismiss the very good work she's done off the court, but it does strike me as suspect that the one time in her career that she would have had the opportunity to prove what she could do when not surrounded by top talent, just happened to coincide with when she decided take a sabbatical from basketball. #HateHard

I think Maya Moore is a great player, but Silky makes some good points.

As I watch the Last Dance it strikes me to remember who also only ever won with loaded teams...

And then retired.

And when he came back he never won a championship with lesser talent around him.

But for some reason, that's not seen as a knock against him and he's still considered the GOAT.

Now I'm not saying that Maya's the GOAT, but arguing that she only played on good teams as being a knock against her is silly. The reason I'd give others the edge against her is longevity, plain and simple. Same thing that hurts Lauren Jackson in these final matchups, IMO. But if she were to come back and win another MVP and/or Championships, and tear up the league for a few more years, I'd probably change my vote. For the time she did play, she was second to none.

Most people don't really think of those Bulls teams as being loaded. Pippen is the only other HOFer who played significant minutes on any of their title teams.

Those Bulls teams significantly out-talented the other teams in the league at the time. Using "Hall of Fame" as the benchmark is highly misleading when comparing size of leagues.

Take Dennis Rodman, who is not a HoFer, but who is considered one of the best rebounders/defenders of all time.

Edit: wait...isn't Rodman a HoFer? I thought he was...

So when did Rodman lose his HoF status?

Rodman wasn't part of the initial 3-peat

And, by "some reason":
  • He has the highest career scoring average.
  • He never lost in the Finals.
  • Iconic plays/games (The Shot versus Cleveland, 63 versus the Celtics, the "flu" game, the series clincher over Russell) that resonate in fans' memory.
  • In men's sports, Jordan's borderline sociopathy is considered a desirable attribute.

Not only is Moore not undefeated in the Finals, she looked very ordinary when they lost in 2012 and, for that matter, when they won in 2015 and 2017. Hell, McCoughtry ate her alive in 2011 but, fortunately for the Lynx, they had Seimone. Maya Moore has got to be one of, maybe, two players in WNBA history with multiple rings, but not multiple Finals MVPs, that people would even think about fixing their lips to call the greatest.

With Jackson and Swoopes the list might be three
