Nikki had to completely REBUILD a broken-down program. Don't diss her. Karen Barefoot + transfers left her with about 6 players and she had to scramble in her first season to even HAVE a team. I know Dawn thinks very highly of her and hated to let her go. I hate to see her leave ODU but I'm really interested to see what she can do with the Bulldogs. IMNSHO she's one of Pat's best legacies.

This is a great hire! Will be interesting to see how she does in Starkville. She can recruit. Now I'm curious about her staff. Does she keep any holdovers from Vic? Do they all follow him to Austin (I don't see why not)? Does she call up her former coach Holly as top lieutenant? Who takes the ODU job? Now the dominoes may fall, to a degree.

Love that three former Lady Vols are head coaches in the SEC right now and it will be great to see Nikki and Dawn battle.

Let's see if Nikki can keep the Bulldogs in the top of the SEC.

Not to mention a Nikki-Kellie chess match! Looking forward to it!

Walz is more proven. McCray is coming off 26-7 in her third season as HC. Walz was 14-18 in his third season.

Walz made it to the national championship game in his 2nd season.

Some rather unrealistic and unfair expectations being built here, it seems.

I think she's a very good (and realistic) choice for MissSt. Very good hire.

But, reality is, she has THREE years as a head coach. Did a good job, and went 26-7 this year, but that was in CUSA and without playing a single ranked team. This is an entirely different thing and a very very big step up.

I wish her well, but it's pretty unrealistic to expect ANYONE to keep Miss St where they've been the last few years, and I fear the fan base will judge her by completely delusional standards.

Leave it to you to throw cold water on other people's party. Reminding you that your team went 13-18 this season. Now please be quiet and let us enjoy Nikki's good fortune.

Nobody, especially me, said anything negative about your hero. I'm just recognizing that people like you who set unrealistic expectations for her are in fact doing her a serious disservice. Recognize who and what she is right now and give her a chance to build something and develop herself and her team. Expecting her today to be equal to hall of fame coaches just sets her up for failure.

And nothing in either of your posts was the least bit "respectfully".

I was not setting what you term "unrealistic expectations". If you read my post at all, which I doubt, since you seem to flame me as soon as you see my name, you would have seen that what I said was completely about what she did at ODU, and also about what Dawn thought of her. I also said I was *looking forward to seeing what she could do with the Bulldogs", no more than that. Oh, and "chess matches with Kellie" which I think will be interesting. I don't know what your problem is but deal with it yourself.

I never even responded to you until you chose to single me out for your trolling.

My post was actually prompted by PRBaller's, and followed Davis4632's.

The notion that every post here is about you is just another of your frequent delusions. It had zero to do with anything you wrote.

I'm old enough to remember the "Pat v Holly" stats that were used to imply HW was of similar, um, idk, ability or worth.

He had the good fortune to inherit a team with a future Olympian on it

Interestingly, there is still no confirmation from MSU that this is a done deal.

Excuse me, but YOU were the one who decided to single ME out. I merely pointed out that it's you that chose to rain on everyone else's parade. THEN you came back at me with pointed personal remarks. Go stick your head in a bucket of cold water until you can talk sense to yourself and stop twisting other people's comments.

Moving from the social media fight back to the actual topic, the AD did post this to twitter today so I'm guessing it's official:

Hated to see Vic leave but love this hire. And if I'm not mistaken, that makes 10 of 14 HC positions in the SEC women's game filled by actual... women?

You are correct. 10 female coaches, 6 of whom are African-American.

Ummm....just as an 'outside' perspective, THIS post was the FIRST shot fired at anyone in this thread, STB. Maybe Art can troll with the best of us ( Razz ), but THIS one's on you, dear.

Vic was Vic, and NO ONE really *replaces* a Good Coach--one picks up the pieces and hopes for the best. Jim Foster had Ohio State at lofty levels. Not much since, excepting the Kelsey years. GG/Duke? ODU, et. al.

It seems her impact at ODU was on the rise, and hopefully she'll carry that momentum forward, instilling her own 'culture' there. I wish her well!

YMMV. It appeared to me as really throwing cold water at others, particularly the snark at C-USA and in light of his usual attitude toward the SEC and Pat's progeny in general. *shrug* But whatever.

The word is Johnnie Harris is going to Austin with Vic. Not sure where that leaves Lavato and Jackson. Good McCray even want them. I would think retaining someone from the previous staff who has a relationship with the man current team would be helpful but that's just me. Another coach with ties to the program is Carly Thibault in Minny.
