Celtics' Marcus Smart says he's been cleared after coronavirus diagnosis

Quote:
"Corona Free as of two days ago. Cleared by Mass Dept of Health," Smart said on Twitter. "Thanks for everyone's thoughts and prayers and I'm doing the same for everyone that's been effected by this. Stay safe and stay together- apart! Much love!"

In a media conference call last week, Boston coach Brad Stevens was enthused with Smart's progress, saying he was doing "great."

"Great spirits. Joking as always," Stevens said last Friday. "We had a Zoom [video conference call] with the team, told the team we were going to give them their own space to hang out and have fun -- and he told us to get off. So he's great."

Chris Cuomo of CNN.

The only time I've seen him is when a clip of one of his interviews is shown by a different broadcaster.

Lucky you.

(But hoping he gets well soon nevertheless.)

Dr. Sanjay Gupta remembers 'giant' of neurosurgery who separated conjoined twins

Quote:
Most will remember Dr. James T. Goodrich as a recognized giant of neurosurgery, the most experienced neurosurgeon in the world when it came to the delicate and daunting separation of craniopagus twins, those conjoined at the head...

That's why it knocked the wind out of me when I heard he had died early Monday morning. I knew the novel coronavirus and the disease it causes, Covid-19, would lead to too many cruel and unfair deaths, but I just didn't expect it so soon. I knew this virus would not discriminate based on who you are or what you do, and yet I still could not believe it would rob the life of someone who had saved so many. While I, like many others, had hoped to never know somebody who became ill or died from Covid-19, that changed with Goodrich's death. Today, I am grieving along with our entire neurosurgery community and the countless children and families he touched.

He ended up dying.

He also wrote the title track for the 1996 movie "That Thing You Do!" about a fictitious 1960's band called the "Wonders". It starred Tom Hanks, Steve Zahn, Charlize Theron, and Liv Tyler.

His band later released the song as well, charting as high as #41 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Stacy's Mom was part of a music movement that kind of captured an era for those of us disaffected suburbanites who weren't quite Gen Xers but also not really Millennials.

When I first saw this I thought there was a new test like the ones they use for cocaine that turn a color when it is positive. Smile

I was thinking that there could be more than “exercising caution about persistent symptoms”. I saw a doctor who has dealt with COVID-19 give a typical timeline for someone. Symptoms after 5 days. If you are going to end up in the hospital it happens around day 12. He didn’t give a percentage, but said it is not uncommon for someone to be admitted around that 12th day with breathing problems and be dead in 12 hours.

Just the fact that he is now in the ICU should hit home with a lot people, particularly other world leaders. If he can get it that bad, anyone can, no matter what their station in life is.

He made a big show of shaking hands with infected people. They should at least learn not to do that.
