Mo likes to throw stuff out there. She obviously sometimes has good info, because she's been around the league and its players/agents/personnel for so long, but she also likes to wildly speculate or repost other people's speculation. Also not always entirely aware of the rules. So, y'know, variable.

Like the “Tina Charles isn’t cored” thing.

She didn't realize that Courtney Williams wasn't an UFA.

Haven't heard anything about Bentley, is it likely she's out of the league going forward ?

Can she take Mestdagh’s place? Training camp contract, but hope she does well!

Booooooooooo! One decent game in Olympic qualifying and it had to come against Great Britain... Wink

More seriously, she's probably a long-shot to make the roster. They've replaced Toliver with Mitchell, have Leslie coming back and the #12 pick to add, which adds up to 12 players. She'll have to beat out someone (Leslie, #12, Walker-Kimbrough etc.) to make it to opening day.

Thought maybe Minnesota would sign her, but they just brought in Banham and Zandalasini is returning. Don't see a team with a need for her, plus the draft is very guard heavy as is.

Maybe awhom knows more about this, but the signing of the South Korean player seems especially odd considering the serious issue of the coronavirus. South Korea has the second most confirmed cases of coronavirus in the world. The CDC has an “avoid travel” alert for South Korea. So unless unexpected expedient progress has been made on a vaccine or advanced testing for the virus, I would guess this player would have to go through a two week quarantine just to play it safe. You can be a carrier for coronavirus for two weeks before symptoms show up, and this virus spreads as easily as a cold.

Is it worth it having this player over especially considering it’s very unlikely she even makes the roster? My guess is it’ll never happen.

I wondered about this too. But the virus is spreading around in Europe as well - especially Italy ITM - so the same issue might be said of players returning from there. I think sports teams are rife with the ability to spread flu. You see it all the time with college teams: one player gets it, then the whole team gets it, then opponents get it, etc... This one is really nasty and could disrupt a lot of things - including the Olympics.

Liz Cambage is in the Aces' recent Twitter video answering phones for STH. She's basically telling the STH that she'll be back this season playing "point center".

I guess if her paychecks from China are a victim of the corona virus she will need those WNBA dollars.

Here I thought Laimbeer having six players who could play point was excessive. Now he actually has seven he could play at point, lessening his need for point guards even more.

Get ‘er done, Reeve!

She's a pretty easy cut so if this is still a concern in a month and half, I think that they would have no issues doing that. Games in the Korean league have all been played as scheduled so far.

The European situation seems more likely to have impacts. Training camp is starting the weekend after the EuroLeague Final Four so there will probably be plenty of players missing the start. Italy's regular season finishes on April 8th and they have already had to postpone two rounds of games. If any other leagues have to stop a game week or two, it could leave people in limbo about how the rest of the season will be scheduled. This is the first week on the men's side where we will see how Chinese League teams are handling Letters of Clearance so there could be some precedence on how European teams will handle uncertainty.

It's official. One-year deal. Expect Gray to go for the supermax deal in 2021.

No, contracts can only go up a maximum of 3% of the first year's salary.

Bentley, Carson, T. Young, Zellous

Are they victims of the new pay structure or simply of time?

I could see all these players and there agents thinking if Clarendon and Hartley are getting paid wee should be in the 125K+ club, and turning down low ball offers.

Do any of them get signed?

I could see Dallas wanting some veteran help

*And then there is still what is going on with Charles if anything? Did she go back to China after the Team USA game she played in? is there fire where there was smoke and she is getting traded or sits out? Or is she just signing late as she has in the past? Any clues? twitter lurkers? (but we already covered this so atm I am more curious about the non-retiring vets and their fates).

The Chinese Basketball Association shut down the women’s league on January 3rd to prepare for Olympic Qualifiers. The USA-UConn game was played on January 27th, and then the CBA postponed the rest of their season on February 2nd. Olympic Qualifiers didn’t end until February 9th, so it’s doubtful that Charles or any other foreign player ever returned to China.

I’ve been saying for the last couple of years that Tina needs to take a season off to rest because she’s been playing year-round for her entire career. Well, this is just as good. It gives Charles four months off before training camp begins. It may be exactly what she needs to rejuvenate her body.

Good find. Aces' loss imo. Teams like Phoenix, Connecticut, and Chicago have the roster space for another vet - but it's hard to say if any of them have the cap space depending on what the going rate is for her. I doubt she signs with a non-contender unless the money's good.
