Samuelson’s mom wanted out of Chicago, Stevens wanted out of Dallas like it was long ago rumored, and Dallas almost got fair value (*probably not though!).

What' going to happen when Kaela Davis' mom and Mother Jones get into it over who should be playing the most minutes???? Could be fireworks - stock up on popcorn. Razz

This type of content gets me almost as hyped for the season to start as the free agent frenzy

There are no maybes about it. From the bits & pieces I've seen (not just WNBA, but also NBA and occasionally here down under as well), parents, siblings, partners & exes are all very capable of swerving out of their lanes and making spectacles of themselves. Sadly I just don't have the time or energy to keep track of it all. I find it draining enough just keeping tabs on Liz's Instagram.

Shocked And what would her motivation be for leaving a contender for a lottery team?? Unless the Dream are offering her the $185k max and the Sun offered her, like, half of that, expecting her to take it. Laughing

And speaking of Courtney Williams - what of her and her own situation?? Is the possibility of her going to Atlanta cancelled now that one of her teammates has? ...Or is it even more likely??

Ohhhhhhhh boy. Cue the bombarding of new trade ideas for that one - I myself am too exhausted to cuz I’m still trying to recover from this past week; my naïve self really thought things would be quiet this weekend. Lol nope, not in #WNBAFreeAgency2020! This sh!t runs damn near 24 hours a day-7 days a week. Laughing

Still, why Charles would agree to get traded to any of last year's lottery teams is beyoooond me Exclamation

I don’t know the breakdown, but Samuelson was playing some amount of 4 for Chicago and having to defensively battle in the post for maybe the first time in her life. I didn’t see her playing any 2, so “future replacement for Allie Quigley” doesn’t seem right. Samuelson can hit from 3, but she does not have a 2 guard’s quickness and agility. It struck me last year that in a game Wade was playing Samuelson at 4 and Williams at 1, while they were a 3 and 4 in college (and Williams was a 4 as a rookie).

“Mother Jones” is what Samuelson and her sisters are supposed to call their mom, for those of you who were also confused by that reference.

It looks to me like Atlanta is going make-over instead of rebuild

signing players like GloJo and Stricklen (or Tiff Mitchell) who are decent vets looks like a team that intends to try and compete

If the Dream could add Charles to Hayes and or C. Williams and the players above they might think they could get somewhere

and there are some other OK players out there they could sign for less than max like TY Young, Price, Rodgers, D-Rob to fill out the back-court

it might not be great but a good coach might feel like they could get the best out those parts and possibly make some noise

I understand you may disaree with the philosophy but I see what Pilight sees this off season Atl looks like it is making a choice to get better with established players rather than waiting for internal growth. They probably took swings at Diggins and Bonner as well.

and Stormeo I already got the trades figure out

Billings and #4 to NY for Charles
Hayes and Coffey to Conn for C. Williams

Atl
Montgomery/D-Rob
C. Williams/Rodgers or Prince/Cazorla
GloJo/Stricklen
Charles/Breland/Waiver wire
K. Brown/E. Will

That team can make the playoffs how far they get maybe the 2nd or 3rd round maybe not

Conn already gave 215k to her replacement, and have to worry about both Thomases becoming free agents next year. Once the Bonner deal was done she was always moving on if she wanted to get remotely paid.

There's something about this roster... that's giving me "disaster!" vibes. Do y'all remember 2012 when the Mystics were trying to move on from their disastrous 2011 season (coming off a fantastic 2010 regular season... hmmmmm...) and had that hodgepodge roster of vets under Trudi Lacey - I don't know why but I remember them doing weird-at-the-time bonding activities like yoga together lmao - and still ended up as the absolute worst team in the league? (Only to of course finish 4th in the lottery in the Big 3 year, essentially causing the league to change the lottery format. Laughing ) Now I'm not saying that Nicki Collen is bad like Trudi Lacey, and this group of players would actually have a decent talent base to work off of, unlike the 2012 Mystics. But if this hypothetical team's true ceiling is only a 5th or 6th place finish (which is what it looks like, to me), I ask - what would be the point?

They have to go after vets that no one wants for the price they’re going to pay. Somebodies got to play for the Dream, and with three players already moving on it seems like almost everyone is for sale. Good thing about the Johnson deal is that it’s only for one year. I’m wondering what Stricklen signed for.

Agreed, that should be the objective of every coach.

Realistically, what playoff team is that roster replacing?

That looks like a 10 win team, maybe. The floor spacing would almost be atrocious.

The Dream aren't going anywhere with Montgomery at PG

The Lynx, an 18-16 that's lost both back court starters and replaced them with nothing

Agreed. Lynx are looking like a lotto team unless they start signing players.

Spooner’s dreams aren’t reality, and the reality is the Lynx are in a lot better shape than the Dream.

As long as all the over-seas players come back (and KCK is healthy), I do agree they aren't in dire straits.

I wish they would do something about that PG hole, as I really don't like trusting rookie PGs (which is what Lexie more-or-less would be if thrust into that role, or else the draftee). But with normal progression of their young players like Phee, Brown, and Shep, and having Zandalasini back and healthy, they aren't exactly imploding.

My frustration with the team was more along the lines of them being a few big moves away from challenging for a title again, rather than them having to make moves to not suck.

Richyyyyyyyy's snark is dialed-down to 1/10 (booooo!) but the info is still there:

Quote:
When WNBA Free Agency Went Wild - Part One
Free agency in the WNBA started slightly late this year due to extended negotiations over the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, but it’s already the most dramatic period of player movement the league has ever seen. The new CBA led to a spike in the team salary cap of over 30%, which meant teams had money burning holes in their pockets. #WNBATwitter has been buzzing as players have been signed, traded, and generally criss-crossed the WNBA landscape all week. What does it all mean for the W in 2020? We take a look at all the biggest moves below (and don’t worry, we’ll cover the dealings of every other team in Part 2, later this week).

#14 for Johannes, Spooner? Just think of nice choices that will be available at that pick. You could probably list them off right now.
