Maryland-Michigan on the BTN is a close one. Maryland leads 34-32 halfway through the 3rd quarter.

I saw some "terrible" and a LOTTA "mediocre"....I just saw where Graham Hayes wrote something about MD being a FF contender yet. Really!?? Of course, the way the Top Teams are playing, who knows?

It's opening day for the Big East with all the teams playing. Providence at Villanova is televised on FS1 at 4P EST. I look forward to seeing frosh Maddy Siegrist play for the first time for Villanova - she scored 41 points in a game recently and has been the national frosh of the week twice.

All the games have free internet broadcasts and the schedule and the links can be found in this BE story:

http://www.bigeast.com/news/2019/12/27/womens-basketball-bigeastwbb-minute-conference-play-tips-off-sunday.aspx

I made a separate thread for DePaul-Marquette because DePaul is ranked and well I have a little personal interest also Smile.

Opening day for the Summit League as well. Several teams are injury-plagued already, but I’m hoping that incoming freshmen on some of the teams will help make us a stronger conference. Go Yotes!

Lotta post-holiday rust being knocked off the players. Be kind. Don't know about some of the rest of you but the interface on this site has been looking very weird the past couple of days. Maybe it's my computer, maybe not.

Anyway, off to watch JMU play Robert Morris in their last NC game before they open CAA playagainst Wm & Mary next Friday. The Tribe look to be the other title contenders.

The 3 BE games that tipped at 2P EST are fairly close at halftime - Butler leads Seton Hall 34-28, St. John's leads Xavier 35-29 and the surprising one to me is Georgetown leads Creighton 33-23 (still time for that to change of course and the game is at Georgetown).

Blue DeBils getting boatraced by FGCU. 61-44 heading into final period.

These solid three point shooting teams used to be just the type to give JPMac coached teams a headache.

However, nowadays, most teams can give Duke a headache.

Creighton took control easily in the 2nd half defeating Georgetown 65-56

St. John's won at Xavier 75-67

Seton Hall comes back from 15 down in the 2nd half and wins at Butler 67-62

Wins by the road team in the 3 games so far today.

Providence-Villanova is about to start on FS1 and Marquette-DePaul tips at 5P EST

JMU beat Robert Morris 59-32 in a weird sort of game that saw all kinds of shots chucked up in the first half and almost nothing going in....first half score was 23-7 Rolling Eyes and the Colonials didn’t score at all in the 1Q. Both coaches shuffled players in and out, Coach O’ Regan because he could and the other coach in an apparent attempt to find something that worked. Jackie Benitez was lit up for JMU with 21 points and Kayla Cooper-Williams continued her quest to become the CAA all-time blocks leader—stats not available to me at the moment but I think 5.

Robert Morris is one of those teams with more foreign than US players which prompts me to ask why—-is it that nobody wants to go there, or is it lazy recruiting? Serious question.

The Zags make the comeback and win in the final two minutes.

The Irish do not.

Stat sheet is up. Cooper-Williams had an even more impressive game than I thought, and she was a BEAST from where I was sitting. Seven blocks, not just 5, plus 17 rebounds and 9 points, and basically overpowering the RMU offense and defense. Even their bigs, who were the same size or somewhat bigger, were intimidated.

I watched a game today of N Carolina State and Boston College. As the camera panned on the benches I thought I saw Yolanda Griffin. Is she working on one of these teams? Thanks in advance.

My Huskies of the west coast somehow won at Washington State 65-56 in the “Apple Cup” rivalry series. Though I wish we could show some class & stop mini-celebrating the moment the buzzer sounds after every gotdang win. Rolling Eyes

Colorado stayed undefeated winning @Utah, but that’ll come to an end when those two schools visit the Oregon schools next weekend...

so glad I'm not a coach. Having to do a post game presser after a disaster is really tough.
