Tennessee 69
Notre Dame 60

Each team finishes with 20+ turnovers but LV's win the battle on the glass. Horston has a big night LV's win.

I was damn close ! Laughing

Here is the preview from ND:
https://und.com/game-3-preview-tennessee/

Looking at that picture of the starters from the Loyola game (ND's home opener), it really hits you: Only one of those players was in an Irish uniform last year, and Gilbert had a season ending injury just 6 games in last year, as a freshman.

UT has only one player under 6'. ND has only 2 healthy players over 5'10" (well, except for a 5'11" walk-on).

Freshman Sam Brunelle (6'2") is the only ND starter over 5'10".

If UT doesn't win the the battle of the glass, they'd need some serious rebound coaching. Wink

what I've noticed all across the nation, is how impressive this class of Freshman is...looking forward to watching them the next several years.

Poor Sniezek. She should have multiple assists but ND can't buy a bucket.

Brunelle has talent, but she may struggle against top-25 competition. She is very slow and unathletic.

She could end up as another McBride, but bigger. And that isn't bad.

Guess which team is shooting over 50%? Nope. It's Tenn.

Muffet better call her old Pal at DePaul because if they don't learn to shoot 3's (and get open for them) it's going to be a sad season.

Brunelle can be real good. Get a few more lbs of muscle on her arms and shoulders and she could be a terror down low. Looks to be not afraid of contact and acting classes are in her future. Rolling Eyes

This opinion seems pretty biased. I wont say why , its obvious. Either way Brunelle will be a star for ND . She's a baller and very tough i like her . Glad LV's got the win though !

That is my point. I meant it as a compliment. McBride isn't 6'2" either.

Dont Think UC was complimenting at all with the comments.

Tenn's biggest uncertainty post-departure of Westbrook was at PG, but Jazz had a very reassuring performance tonight.

I meant that she seems slow and not very athletic. While she clearly has a lot of basketball talent, the speed of top-25 teams might hinder her. Nothing more, nothing less. Please don't insinuate things based on my opinions or attempt to put words in my mouth. If you disagree, give reasons why. Thanks.

They were supposed to have some more, but...

...about 4-6 weeks for Vaughn to return.

Bigs who could have been at ND this year:
Erin Boley (6'2"): transferred to Oregon (Gee, thought her transfer meant she missed out on a NC. She might still get one after all)
Danielle Patterson (6'2") Transferred to Indiana

Congratulations to UT on winning the game.

As I said, if UT didn't win the boards, they would need some serious rebounding coaching. Well...

Rebounds:
UT: 55
ND 28

I guess they are being taught well... Wink

I expected the rebounding margin and the blocks (Ugh! 12 of them!).

What I didn't expect was:

Rennia Davis: 5-9 from behind the arc.

That's really what killed ND and won the game for UT, IMO. (Plus ND (Particularly Brunelle) still not finding their 3 point shots much yet).

ND was trying to force UT to shoot from outside and make them win it from behind the arc. Well, they succeeded in forcing UT to shoot from outside. Unfortunately for ND, UT actually hit those shots.

Some good things to take away from this for ND:

1. They played tough (if sloppy at times) the whole way through and never gave up.

2. They were still in it late despite the huge height and depth differential.

3. They were playing without Vaughn and Prohaska (Vaughn at least should be coming back in about 4-6 weeks. Prohaska might miss the rest of the season) and still were fairly close late in the game.

4. Considering the youth of the team, how early in the season it was, and lack of depth (which would mean more tired late in the game) 12 turnovers is really good, IMO.

I said that this was going to be a rough season for ND, particularly early on (or the way I phrased it was "interesting in the Chinese curse sort of way") but it should help lay the groundwork for the following seasons.

A fairly decent game, imo. Especially in contrast to the (alleged) #4/#8 matchup between SC and MD....TN and ND both looked like they were playing more smoothly and comfortably, despite both teams each having so little experience to turn to.

Marta Sniezak is such a solid kid....prolly never be a star, but played her heart out at Stanford, and deserves to be on a solid team--she'll hopefully be able to make more of a contribution at ND than she could at Stanford.

Davis just rocked. Cool I also found Kelly Harper's demeanor on the sideline a nice change-up from Holly's persona--I know she meant well, but she typically struck me as being so pressured, and frazzled. Kelly took it all in stride, and seemed to give a great encouraging energy to the kids.

These 2 teams may surprise a ton o' folks with progress made by February.
