It will be a bit ironic if Charles is slotted back in the C position, where she has always tried to avoid.

If EDD opts out like some of us assume she will, I'd be surprised if Charles didn't start at C. Thibault always played her there in Connecticut, and imo Charles has more of a center's body type than Meesseman.

wouldn't be surprised if they picked up a banger type for certain situations. Maybe R. Gray.

With these opt-outs, Gray is likely the best available post player. I have to imagine someone will pick her up(WAS, CON, LAV).

Sanders isn’t a devastating loss considering they were overloaded in the post with Charles coming on board.

The tough loss for them is key player Cloud, the floor general. They lost the backup floor general in Toliver. Now they lose the lead floor general. Now they have to rely on Mitchell as the lead guard as a newcomer? Boyd to go with Charles makes a little sense. Thibault does well with rookies, but he probably doesn’t want a rookie as the primary backup during a season with championship potential. Did Lawson ever officially retire? Wink

Q&A with Aerial Powers: I want to ‘bring more females into the gaming world,’ promote ‘health and wellness’ in gaming
https://www.swishappeal.com/wnba/2020/6/24/21300676/wnba-aerial-powers-washington-mystics-monumental-nba-2k-tipoff-espn-dirk-jamie-ruiz-diaz-scott-cole

This article is mostly about Powers being a serious e-gamer. But there’s something about the upcoming WNBA season.

Quote:
Are you excited for the upcoming WNBA season?

I am excited. We have a few girls who have already given their opt-out letters. So it’s going to be a little bit of a different dynamic this year. But I think we’re gonna be okay because what we thrived on last year was everybody being able to step up. And now we’ll have some girls technically out and we’ll just have to step up. And I feel like we can still do an amazing job.

Mystics have signed Essence Carson. Happy she got picked up, but I'm still expecting them to bring in a PG.

Right now the Mystics have 10 players. They still need a back-up PG. Carson could start at SF over Powers. Maybe they're eyeing Boyd?

PG: Mitchell
SG: Atkins/Leslie
SF: Powers/Carson
PF: Delle Donne/Meesseman/Hines-Allen
C: Charles/Hawkins

I didn’t read the article but I bet she knew that before opting out.

I did read the article and I think your assumption is incorrect.

I strongly believe that Tash would have made the same decision to devote her time to working for social justice regardless of the financial consequences. And that Converse stepped up later to support her.

Still no word on Delle Donne, Charles or Mitchell. They could always sign Boyd to bring in a PG, but this will be a sad looking team if all three opt-out.

PG: ???/Peddy
SG: Atkins/Leslie
SF: Powers/Carson
PF: Meesseman/Hines-Allen
C: Hawkins/Coates

I'm sure Thibault knows the status of Delle Donne and Charles, but if neither play, the Mystics will just have ten players. I wonder if the Mystics snuck in a player into the bubble and are basically waiting on both to officially opt-out to announce another replacement. Krystal Thomas? Asia Taylor?

Peddy would've been the obvious one to do that with, considering she was already part of the backroom team. We also don't know for sure whether Charles or Delle Donne intend to play should they be deemed not high-risk. I'd imagine that they're both financially secure enough to just stick with the decision and accept the lost wages, but who knows. Once a panel of doctors says "actually, you'd be fine", maybe they think "fuck it, I'll play then".

Also just occurred to me that there could be players doing it the other way round. Players who've applied for the paid medical opt-out, but know that if it's not granted they'd play, and are therefore currently in the bubble. That would be weird to me, considering you're basically claiming "it's too risky for me to go in there", but I guess it's possible.

It still seems ridiculous to me that the medical decisions have taken this long.

Delle Donne and Charles are in medical protocol. Awaiting decision to be medical excused.

Maybe Charles is another of those elusive covid positives that we don't know about.

Krystal Thomas would be a good one, having played there before. Also Ruth Hamblin might be considered as I think she'd fit well into the Mystics 'culture'.

LMitchell/Atkins/Powers/Hawkins/Meesseman (with Thibault coaching) is still a pretty damn good lineup.

Naw, she’s getting evaluated for whatever is her “pre-existing condition”. Players trying for a free box lunch.
