Can they suspend Williams and go with 11?

Did I miss some news with Williams?

Not that I am aware of

but who knows how things play out?

Without any change in circumstance the team probably could have suspended her last season but decided to wait and see

You can't just suspend someone because you want to. If they are on contract and they show up, you have to pay them or cut them. You can't just tell them to piss off for free because you messed up your cap.

of course not

but players can be suspended for legal matters

I am really not trying to shit talk anyone but isn't the legal outcome still yet to be determined? Or was everything dropped or proven unfounded and I missed it?

I am assuming I did miss something, not trying to derail the thread so I will rescind the idea.

If they cut Mabrey (Wiese would give them even more breathing room) and pay Gray $215K, they can give Augustus $92K. TRP is getting $90K.

That would be silly, Mabrey is probably a better player than Augustus at this point.

I guess you’re not one of those many people who think the Lynx are going to the lottery because they lost Augustus. Smile

BOOYAH!

But another player for Dallas? WTF?
I believe they’re up to 14 players signed plus 4 first round picks.
That’s at least 6 cuts at this point.
I don’t think I’d feel very comfortable being a middlin’ player signed by Dallas.

Gone: Beard, Jones, Mabrey, Brown
New: Toliver, Sykes, Augustus, Gulich

Gray/Wiese
Toliver/Williams
Sykes/TRP/Augustus
N. Ogwumike/Vadeeva
Parker/C. Ogwumike/Gulich

I think we got better. Toliver and Sykes is a clear updgrade over Mabrey and Jones. Beard and Augustus is a bit of a wash, a la two older vets, but we will miss Beard's defense of course. I liked Brown, but we get another (5th) post that will see very few minutes, so shouldn't matter too much.

It’s an odd mix of players. I think Sykes comes off the bench unless Gray isn’t coming back.

I'm fine with TRP starting, and bringing Williams and Sykes off the bench for some scoring and athleticism.

I think Nneka and Chelsea ought to have serious talk with Ace about making a serious run for another championship. I hope she is patching things up with Fish because he knows a little something about winning.

The thing is, I wonder if their best chance might be created by Parker showing up some time in August, healthy and rested and ready to go for the stretch run. There may only be so many games in her body for a season at this point, so having those games be the ones that matter at the end would make sense.

But teams don't tend to think like that.

As a former player who actually won, I am hoping he can re-ignite her competitive juices and turn them into a boiling, steaming pot of supreme motivation ... or we can have Nneka and Chelsea kick her tosh.

Parker getting her rear end kicked will not motivate her to play better at her age. She will just get angry and retire. Very Happy

Nneka will reason with Ace and make her an offer she can't refuse.

Her dad used to make her ( Parker ) get angry so that she would play better. If she doesn't give an effort she might as well just retire. I also noticed that when she gets a certain look on her face is the time she ups her game both offensively and defensively. He coast game level just is not good enough anymore. The Sparks would be better off just having her retire. I know some of you just wait for the far and in between games when she turns it up, but there are not enough of those to make her worthwhile anymore. Even the games that she gives an effort are not what they once were.

Oh and the last two seasons she did come in late and rested and it still didn't make any difference in her play on the court.

Good news for Riquna Williams: her case has been Nolle Prossed today, clearing her 2020, according to Palm Beach County court records. She remains under contract to @LA_Sparks. #WNBA

Does the ten game suspension seems a little bit unfair now?

Not enough information. Why was the case dropped or whatever?

She still needs to avoid these situations. I doubt the charges were totally trumped up.

Las Sparks have quite an arsenal of accurate long distance snipers (i.e. Kristi, Chelsea, Riquna, Syd the Kid, and sometimes Ace, Nneka, & Maria). This balances well with an effective front court (Nneka, Ace, Chiney, Maria) and offensive midrange game (Nneka, Ace, Chiney, Riquana, TRP, etc.). This isn't even taking into account the newcomers.

No need to be sorry. Everyone knows she is streaky, but when she's hot, she's hot!

She’s more of a short range shooter. She’s a threat to take 18 shots every game.

The Los Angeles Sparks have exercised the fourth-year team option on Maria Vadeeva. She is now signed through the 2021 season. Congrats Masha!
