She would only be a RFA if he contract counted in 2019.

2016, 2017, 2018, 2019... that’s only 4 years.
It seems the clock keeps running on rookie contracts whether you play or not.
The new rule now is 5 years until they’re a UFA.

I haven’t seen it clarified if it’s 3 yrs rookie + 2 yrs RFA, or 4 yrs rookie + 1 yr RFA. My guess is the first one.

My guess is, no matter what her contract status is, Stewie gets signed to either an extension or a new contract before the season starts, sorta similar to what they did with both Loyd & KML before their contracts ran out. She's definitely eligible for a new contract in some form, and this organization's the type to get that done sooner rather than later. It'll probably rightfully be for max.

I think Bird's contract is up this year (I believe she's only been signing two-year deals for a little while now), so I'm guessing she gets max, if nothing else for the many years she's given us along with the loyalty she's shown. Absolutely deserving imo. Stewie would deserve hers too.

I do wonder where those likely moves would put us regarding the cap...

Due to construction of the New Arena at Seattle Center, the Storm will host 10 games at the University of Washington’s Alaska Airlines Arena prior to the league-wide break for the 2020 Olympic Games, and will resume play at Angel of the Winds Arena on Aug. 16 against the Las Vegas Aces.

Based on current salaries, plus people likely to get the new max, I still have you at over 200k under the new cap, with only two roster spots left to fill (one of which is presumably expected to be a dirt-cheap Magbegor). That's even assuming last season counted on Stewart's contract (I'm not certain how they handle these suspensions any more) and she'd be on 215k.

1.3m is quite a lot to work with when a lot of people are still on deals signed under the old scale.

It's starting to set in that, since she has been signing only two-year deals for a while now, this will all but be the final contract Sue Bird signs as a player. I'm absolutely hoping and praying that she does in fact make it to the 2021 season, which is on track to be the first season in the newly-renovated Key Arena. She didn't play in either 2013 or 2019 but was on the active roster in both instances, so the 2021 season would be her 18th playing season, and 20th season as a professional with the Storm overall!! And, she'd be 40 years young. Mr. Green

One of my earliest sports memories was being present in that arena as a young kid with my dad when we won it all for the first time in '04; I can still picture all that green & yellow confetti coming down. Cool It's hard for me to imagine the team without her since I literally can't remember a time when she wasn't with the Storm... Damn, time sure does fly by, doesn't it.

So is there a chance Xargay comes over and plays for the Storm?

Phoenix would have to let her - they still hold her reserved rights.

Happy for them Very Happy Wouldn't have guessed they even knew each other lol. Anyways, we could still trade for her rights - add her to the list of people that can take KML's spot. Twisted Evil

They were teammates at Dynamo Kursk.

Can we start calling the Storm "Uconn Huskies - NW" now? Maybe UConn could set up a Seattle campus.

Only after a humiliating trade of Maya for Howard.

Tuck is really not very good. Maybe she is Stewie's buddy?

EDIT: I moved my commentary from Myrtle's Trades/Signings thread to this one:

Alisha Valavanis being a cr*ckhead again with another bad trade with Connecticut. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes If it weren't for Dan Hughes' affinity for Howard (to which I give him the bulk of the credit), I'm not sure we would've had a single good trade under her management, jfc. Connecticut finessed us (aka, we finessed ourselves). Evil or Very Mad Who tf is gonna be there at #11??? Now we'll be lucky if it's a Mikayla Pivec or a Kaila Charles. And we couldn't even angle for #10 instead of 11? Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

As it stands:
PG: Bird/Canada
SG: Loyd/Whitcomb
SF: Clark/KML/Tuck
PF: Stewart/Langhorne
C: Howard/Russell

12th Spot: Magbegor, and if not her, then I guess one of the draft picks since #11 is a lot more cuttable than #7? KML's contract is guaranteed but she might still be cheap enough to cut; Langhorne's contract is six figures but non-guaranteed so she's cuttable, too.

I already said it on your thread, but let me reiterate: Connecticut finessed us (aka, we finessed ourselves). Evil or Very Mad Who tf is gonna be there at #11??? Is there somebody at 7 that Connecticut really wants that wouldn't fall to 11? Would a #7 or 11 pick even make our team? Will Tuck?

Since it's an Olympic year, Magbegor probably isn't coming?

Yeah, I already gave a hint about her. Bella Alarie. Miller got skurt that I pointed out that he was scouting her, so he felt a need to move up.

The mystery to me is why Seattle felt a huge need to add a bench forward, unless some other moves are going down.

Everyone in the organization seemed to be on the same page that she'd be on the team in 2020, but maybe the caveat was that she comes over/officially signs with us after the Olympics are done. Cuz yeah, us getting Tuck probably is correlated with Magbegor's status somehow.

It'd be dumb if #7 hadn't made our roster. If there are early entrees to the draft, it would've positively affected #7 much more than #11. Assuming a mostly healthy team, when would we have gotten to pick lower than 7 in the next few years?

I noticed Megdal has updated the SEA part of his data base. He has Bird making $215K and Stewart making $185K. Have these been announced, or are they just assumptions?

I dont know how to feel about this. We already are stacked with a post rotation of Stewie, Howard, Langhorne and Russell. So hardly any minutes forher there. Is she getting KML s minutes?

I'm assuming this trade has KML on her way out of Seattle.

That'd be the one saving grace tbh, and even then, taking in Tuck and getting rid of KML, while moving down in the draft, would still feel like a pretty lateral move to me. I think I'd rather just keep KML & #7 in that scenario. As it stands now, we can only hope KML's gone, but I doubt that'll happen given our GM's ineptitude. Confused

KML is making close to the league minimum. I wonder if somethings up with Clark. Maybe she’s pregnant too.
