If they try and sign her just because they missed on other players and are trying to throw fans a bone by bringing a "hometown favorite" back and overpay for her, it would be bad.

But if they got her on a reasonable contract she is a player that has a ton of upside that has been limited due to injury and playtime that could perhaps break out in a new environment.

IMHO any signing of Banham comes down to the terms of the contract on whether or not it's a good/bad decision.

She looks in good shape to me - contract time remake? Probably worth a gamble, and the Lynx seem to need guards. Of course, the Sun do too.

While the original source said the Sun were unlikely to match, that was also before the Williams trade. They might feel they have more cap flexibility now and be willing to match any non-outrageous offers. And if it's an outrageous offer (for instance the Lynx could go nuclear and offer a guaranteed contract that CT would not be able to match no matter what), then the Lynx would be making a poor decision.

So we'll have to see how this plays out.

Reeve is really superstitious, and there’s some eerie commonalities between Banham and Whalen.
•Both have banners hanging in the rafters of Williams Arena.
•Both were #4 picks in the draft to Connecticut.
•Both want(ed) to play for Minnesota.
•Neither really have ever really strived for peak physical conditioning.

How they’re not alike.
•Whalen left Connecticut as a top player, commanding a #1 pick(Charles) as a price.
•Whalen didn’t have the serious injury history of Banham, through college and now the pros.

Reeve confirmed on Twitter that Cruz had surgery to prepare for Tokyo and will not be over at any point in 2020.

Were fans asking about her? Acting like they may have been actually considering her shows a certain level of desperation. You can’t let teams see you sweat like that during this negotiations period.

Unless Reeve intentionally tanked the rest of the decade after 2017, wanted to make sure Maya Moore never plays in the WNBA again, etc, I doubt her superstitions go beyond silly basic things like water bottle positioning and not allowing her brother to attend games.

When you’re that superstitious, you’re not in control of your superstitions.
How about the never wanting to win a tip ball thing? I hope Reeve has gotten a handle on her superstitions. Winning or losing isn’t a fate thing that might be controlled by what socks you wear. It’s comes from knowing what you’re doing.

The Cheryl Reeve Show Podcast

Somewhat of an interesting comment by Reeve regarding Collier.

Boom ! Surprised that it wasnt PHX. I think the Hartley/Diggins combo may have scared her away. She expressed on IG live that she saw herself retiring in Minny if the opportunity to play for the Merc was not a real one. I cant imagine it wasnt. Still shocked reeve was not able to retain her at least to keep on the staff. This is Shockinnnng in so many ways , WTH is going on in Minnesota

Lynx looking like:

PG: Brown/Banham
SG: Christmas-Kelly/Carleton
SF: Collier/Talbot/Zandalasini?
PF: Dantas/Shepard
C: Fowles/Fagbenle
Plus #6, #14 picks

Is Banham offical yet ? If so she will need to literally become a go to player on a new team . Cant Imagine Sylvia Folwes being around much longer if the team does not perform well .

Is this really that surprising? Reeve offered the same to Fowles last season. The Lynx are rebuilding and are not in a position to challenge for a title this year. Mone had already stated that this was likely her last season.

By going somewhere else she has a chance to contend while the Lynx free up a roster spot so as to not have to cut young talent.

This seems smart on both ends...

Zandalasini can easily play the 2.

no, but according to sources, the Lynx offered Banham good money & the Sun aren't matching.

I don't believe the source ever said the Lynx made an offer to Banham just yet, just that they were very interested.

Augustus as she is now wouldn't change that.

They might be wise to move Fowles and start fresh.

Fowles might be wise to demand her way to a title contender.

She already did that once.
