Just wondering... If a team is in tank mode for the season, where does this order come from? Upper management, the coaches, amongst the players? I mean, aside from just being a bad team, if/when winning games is not of the best interest, who gives the green light to suck for the season?

It comes from upper management. Players always play to win. Coaches who lose soon become ex-coaches.

Very true -- but it is possible that a coach is given to understand that playing youngsters this season won't be held against her down the road.

The two-year aggregate makes disparities between records that much more likely. Modest but not ridiculous differences in lottery percentages also minimizes how much tanking can get you now. Unless the Liberty pull off a miracle and make the playoffs, they are probably finishing with #2 odds. They are a game "behind' Indy for the #1 odds. Indy's schedule is brutal so they are going to struggle to win moving forward. But even if the Libs move to #1, it's not an extraordinary difference in percentage. Also, mathematically there is no chance the Libs finish 3 or 4. So, winning is likely to cost them nothing in terms of draft odds. Moving forward, this is probably the way it's going to be most of the time. Even if an organization was inclined to tank, it's likely not going to mean that much of significance.
