Quote:
Imboden’s demonstration was not done lightly. He is all but assured of being disciplined by the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, having signed the standard agreement not to “make remarks or release propaganda of political, religious or racial nature, or any other kind” during the Games.

Quote:
But this country, already badly wounded by a partisan divide and hate mongering, seems to have been pushed to the brink this week. Are we going to continue to bury our heads along with our dead from yet another mass shooting? Are we going to allow President Donald Trump to put our fellow citizens in further danger with his racism and bigotry? Are we going to let Trump and his band of sycophants dismantle the rest of our rules of law and democratic traditions?

Quote:
The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee will argue that Imboden picked the wrong venue for his protest. But that’s the whole point. Protests are not meant to be convenient or polite. They are intended to provoke, to grab your attention and make you think and, maybe, act.

Also, hammer thrower Gwendolyn Berry held up her right fist during her medal ceremony.

Nancy Armour has updated her article/commentary.

Quote:
"Somebody has to talk about the things that are too uncomfortable to talk about. Somebody has to stand for all of the injustices that are going on in America and a president who’s making it worse," Berry told USA TODAY Sports on Saturday night.

"It’s too important to not say something," Berry added. "Something has to be said. If nothing is said, nothing will be done, and nothing will be fixed, and nothing will be changed."
