Captains Elena Delle Donne and A’ja Wilson to Select This Year’s WNBA All-Star Teams

ESPN2 will air the WNBA All-Star Team Selection Special on Tuesday, July 23, at 9:30 p.m. ET in advance of the AT&T WNBA All-Star 2019 featuring the 16th WNBA All-Star Game airing on ABC on Saturday, July 27.College sports analyst and reporter, Maria Taylor will host the draft selection with special guest appearances by analyst Rebecca Lobo and WNBA MVP in 1997 and 1998 Cynthia Cooper-Dyke.

The Washington Mystics’ Elena Delle Donne and the Las Vegas Aces’ A'ja Wilson will serve as team captains and draft the All-Star Game rosters from the pool of players voted as starters and reserves. Delle Donne and Wilson will select their respective rosters in the WNBA All-Star Draft by choosing first from the remaining pool of eight starters and then from the pool of 12 reserves. By virtue of finishing with the most fan votes, Delle Donne will make the first pick in the First Round (Starters) and Wilson will have the first pick in the Second Round (Reserves). Additional details about the WNBA All-Star Draft will be announced at a later date.

The 30-minute WNBA All-Star Team Selection Special will also include an interview with newly appointed WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert. The WNBA All-Star Team Selection Special will precede the WNBA matchup between Seattle Storm and the Las Vegas Aces airing at 10 p.m. on ESPN2.

So someone will be given the public stigma of being chosen last on national TV? What could possibly go wrong there?

Nothing will go wrong. I'm not aware of anybody caring/making a big deal about Bradley Beal and him being the last player picked (not counting the special additions of Wade and Nowitzki) in the 2019 NBA All-Star Draft.
